I think he meant like after it stopped and you re-start it, it takes a quite noticeable second before it runs

I just rented a Peugeot 508 in Spain and it has start/stop engine. Hated it. Even roll forward/backward on slopes when the engine stopped. Pick up really slow.

Just test drove the 520 on the weekend. I have to say the start stop thing is really annoying.. how much gas you can save I wonder and how much more you need to dish out to get your starter fix every few years.

City driving wise is comparable with the 523, the power is quite smooth for a turbo car. But when you hit 4-5000 rpm I then realize I prefer the sound of the I6 on my car. There's no replacement for displacement as they say.

The car hit 120 in a hurry but kind of taper off at around 140 but the I6 still goes at 140. For folks who don't drive in those speed range or rev their engine that high. 520 is not a bad replacement, but I did not regret getting the 523 for a bit more.

Could the start stop turn off?

Wonder how the 528i turbo compares with the 528i 6 banger aka 530i?

The start stop can be turn off, there's a button under the engine Start/Stop to let you turn that off.

6 banger is more to the BMW enthusiast while 4 banger is better for daily use with those fuel save gadget. Just like back when 996 first using water cooled and porsche fan debating air cooled vs water cooled.

True. bro. Tuners are coming out with software tunes for the 4 turbo, I wonder if the tuned 4 turbo will out-blast our 6 banger massively.

There's a button at below the starter switch where you can turn that feature off but you need to do it on every start up.

On the other hand, the auto start-stop on the hybrid cars is less noticiable, but that's a whole different system so can't compare the two. But again Hybrid cars are not worth the money in Hong Kong as the premium they charge out runs the fuel savings and the luxury of air-con with engine off. I would just rather park my car if I need to wait that long for someone.

The start stop feature is annoying because in our traffic we always need to roll our car an inch or so forward from time to time and the engine will start/stop/start/stop during that time, fxxking annoying if you ask me. Then when you try to turn your steering wheel with the engine off, the engine need to restart, I think it's a design flaws here. Since the power assist runs on electric, you shouldn't need to turn the engine on to turn the steering wheel right?

BMW engineers need to fine tune this system, but as with any new gadgets that make their way to the new car, it need sometime to refine the product and millions of white mouse (like us) to test it for them. So I am those that are reluctant to put on the lastest options on my car

Yes 6 banger all the way, but for poor BMW enthusiast like me, I don't have the choice of getting a 535i like you do, so I am thinking of keeping this car for 20 years

No matter how you tune your 4 turbo, you still couldn't out run a 535i and the HK police will let you know that fact with their own F11s 535i

Those guys are everywhere. My colleague got cited on local making an illegal u-turn. Watch out guys.

Also, I wonder if I can say I own a 530i since the HK dealer now named and re-badged the left over stock of 528i to 530i.

Remember read the news on the headline newspaper few days ago said the cops now put the "furious driver killer" behind the wheel on the F11 535i...

Yeah they are cracking down street racing as of late.

Besides the Civics they caught a few days ago, they also caught a bunch of Motorcycles, those are not cheap ass motorcycles either, R1s and Aprillia. That suggest how fast the 535i is catching up to a litre bike.

Oh thanks for the info I didn't notice this off button.
Talking about the streering wheel, one time, while waiting in the traffic jam, the engine start by itself and I don't think I touch the pedal Maybe I lightly touched the steering wheel though ... so scared I was

Oh i thought your car has not been deliver yet.

Which makes me wonder how can you miss that button under the start/stop button perhaps I don't have that button on my car so I notice that button right away as I was kinda like playing photo hunt spotting the difference on the demo.

OK OK don't really need to tell me why if you don't want to

Well it's my bad, once I get in the car I only focus on the bid round start/stop button and press it to switch on/off the engine.
But I never paid attention to the button below

So nice, I can have a "new" car every month if I keep on discovering not-so-hidden features

Well I kinda like the start/stop concept in addition with the auto H one. Though as mentioned before it's not very smooth (compared to the class E one). There are always those 2 seconds to start up the engine which seems an eternity while stopped.
But in the name of environmental friendliness, I say why not
Theoritically it's not using your fuel while on this standby mode, so let's good it's a thumbs up for the environment and our fuel bill
