M5 Exhaust on 550
I've seen many people who install the M5 OEM Exhaust on the 550i, and seem to have no real issues with fitment. Why is it that if the OEM M5 Exhaust fit, that no one seems to run the aftermarket M5 systems on the 550? Just curious, it's probably a really simple answer.

I've heard of folks installing aftermarket m5 exhausts on 550i's as well. Probably just need to insure you grab the m5 cross member which has bushings that bolt to the exhaust itself.
I've heard of guys bolting an akra povic exhaust to the 550 as well but that exhaust is approx 10k! Last edited by xxpanipuri; 08-04-2016 at 01:42 PM.. |

I have the full M5 exhaust on my 550. It is not a direct fit, as the piping on the M5 is bigger by .25" or .5" so you'll need to cut and weld and then there's a crossmember and some other assorted parts you can get for the mounting of the full system.
I got mine off of a 1000-mile 2015 M5 who went Akropovic and I couldn't be happier. Why BMW didn't put this exhaust on the 550 from the onset is beyond me. It's really perfect. I'm about to do the mod so all 4 valves are open all the time though. It opens in Sport Mode but since our cars are so quiet inside, even at high speed there's no droning even w/ the radio off. I wholeheartedly suggest going this route!

I have a full M5 Comp and M5 DPs on my 550. There are minor modifications to make things fit, but it's fairly straight forward. I would suspect that an aftermarket M5 exhaust would fit the same as oem does. I also tried the open flap mod and I didn't like the sound so I reverted to closed. It's really a simple mod if you simply bypass the vacuum valve in the trunk and connect the two hoses to each other to keep the flaps open all the time.

I found mine a while back in january for 1200 + 275 shipping from Dallas. also you need the m5 cross member and some additional nuts/bushings that bolt up between the cross member and tabs on the exhaust, which eliminates drone! Also guys check out the exhaust meister easy as hell to install http://exhaustmeister.com/ i just programmed mine to the homelink buttons under the mirror, allows you to manually open/close the valves any factory exhaust. m5 comp exhaust has the valves as well, so with it open it sounds like a beast, with it closed it sounds quiet (inside the cabin) I can drive in comfort mode with the wife & kids in the car with the valves closed and the radio at a normal volume and you cant hear the exhaust. Open the valves in sport + and it sounds awesome! |

I wonder about the same thing. I'd like to change the muflers. but want to keep the 550i tips. I may be in the minority, but i prefer the dual bigger tips. I would just like to get more of a rumble.

Damn that's a shame, I got a lead on a complete set for 600. I guess I will save up the cash for the Meisterschaft GTC. thanks for sharing!

Houston has a huge BMW community and I found mine on one of our local club FB pages. Paid $500 for mine.

I have the M5 Competition mufflers on my 550. I clamped the valves open and it sounds amazing.
I've heard the regular M5 mufflers on a 550 and it was much of a difference. Competition exhaust is much better. |

Well of course the comp muffler is going to sound better but I don't need to wake the whole house up when I start the car in the garage either. It's a little better than stock and for the price of a used set you can't go wrong. I just got them to mess around with till I get the coin for the Meisterschaft GTC.
