But you get very limited control on your car... basically you can only (play, pause, next song, prev song). I do not remember exactly the configuration steps but I did not much it was basically the default options.

In order to enable audio streaming via Bluetooth the option must be enabled in the phone.
This is done per individual bluetooth device.
Menu->Settings->Wireless & networks->Bluetooth settings

1) Long press on the name of the device (your car) and a menu will pop up. Choose Options...

2) Make sure that under profiles that both Phone and Media are checked.

x) If you don't see both options unpair the device and try again...

Thank you.

I did not see the Media option at all. I guess I will have to unpair and try again.

I unpaired, paired, connected many times, still couldn't get the connect MEDIA option to click on.

I also called BMW help. They told me they are not aware the car can play music through bluetooth.

Do you have some type of BMW App that allows to do that?

I also just found out the in order to get Text message on the car, you also need BMW app, which I don't think my car has.... sucks.

I have HTC Desire 2.2 (2.29.405.5)
My drive is: March build, Bluetooth, Nav Prof. 6NR..etc.
No BMW app (or other) is used for the data communication part...just plain out of the box functionality.

I stream Spotify daily from my phone via Bluetooth...

edit: for the record 6NR (apps) is not in play here..

I really don't know what the problem is then. Even the BMW help is saying bluetooth can only make/take calls. Not to play music.

is it a European fuction that US model doesn't have?

You dealer is probably clueless...

This should most definitely be supported. The only thing I can dream up is that your car is an early bird that needs to get it's driver updated. If it is something it is probably software related.

I have also USB audio option. It might be something related to that... I am thinking that the car internally pipes the audio stream coming from the bluetooth interface via some interface that is opened up if a car has USB audio. But this is a real longshot explanation.

If you go to CD/Media in the idrive do you have Bluetooth has an option? I do...this functionality is not accessed via the Telephone part of the iDrive...

When was your car produced. If it was produced before Sept/Oct 2010, then you do not have the hardware to support BT audio or office. It sounds like you have a pre-combox car. If that is the case, then you can do a combox retrofit. You can contact Patrys on the E90 forum. He will hook you up.

I didn't have trouble getting my contacts to sync, or music to play, but couldn't get SMS message to display. I paired, unpaired, made sure MAP for SMS was selected, but nothing worked until today. The only thing I did was pull the battery will my HTC Evo 3D was powered on while troubleshooting a Reboot issue with HTC. This afternoon, my text messages can be displayed, but I only see them when navigating through the "BMW Assist" menu, not the "Office" menu. I did have to change the "Filter" to show all.

Hope this wasn't just a fluke and maybe helps someone else.

Funny enough - Nokia E72 - a few years old model, shows all of that as well. SMS, calendar, pictures. No emails though.
