Will H&R Lowering Springs Ruin My Suspension
I have H&R's on my 2012 535xi, wanted to know will it effect the suspension? I heard it messes with the car thinking it has extra weight since its lowered. this cancers damage to bearing and etc. Is this true? or how will it affect it?

Anytime you lower your car, your struts and shocks will wear out faster. Also, if your car is not aligned properly after installing aftermarket springs, tires will have uneven wear. Generally, the more you drop the car, the faster the shocks wear out and the ride quality will get more bouncy.

I would just go coilovers. At least the shocks and springs are matched for the ride quality you want. Good luck! |

I just have one question regarding the statement that the shocks wear out faster.
Why? Obviously the chocks work in another height then normal, but also they will have less movement in them, compared to standard height. The harder springs take up much more force then oem springs, so if you compare total movement on the springs between two cars going the same amount of miles, the one with lower, stiffer springs will have shocks with the least amount of work load. Or am i totally off here? |

The only purpose of (liquid, gas) shock is to absorb vertical sway. In fact, you can remove all shocks from a standing car and nothing happens, because the shocks don't hold the car: the springs do. The shocks allow vertical travel of the damping piston of, say +/- 2-3", and there is oil above and below the piston, and this is absolutely no matter is the piston 1" up or 1" down within the oil bath. Number of members are running sport springs for years without any faster damage or so. Also for the coils addicts: the principle of shortened vs. extended travel is totally the same, except the coils provide adjustable dumping (for track use) and the sport springs don't. This explains why V1, V2, V3 cost that much compared to the H&R "passive" springs. I don't say about the EDC (don't know) admitting this "smart" thing may need a specific treatment: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146302 Have your favorite one, both H&R and KW are OK, don't believe in tales |

BTW, I thought no Coilovers is available for the F10 XDrive? I wanted to go Coilovers but had no choice to get the ACS springs. Hope my shocks won't wear out too fast.
