Smile High Spec or High Performance F10

With £44k to spend on a new company car I faced a real dilemma....High Spec or High Performance.....

Choosing an F10 M Sport over an Audi or Merc was an easy decision, but then came the tricky one, which F10 to go for???????

High Performance..
535i M sport with....
  • 19" 351M wheels
  • Sports auto box
OR

High Spec
520d M Sport with....
  • Metallic paint
  • 19" 351M wheels
  • Sports Auto box
  • Professional media pack
  • Visibility pack
  • Electric Front seats + driver memory
  • Split fold rear seats
  • Heated seats front and rear
  • Electric glass Sunroof
  • DAB radio
  • Brushed aluminium Trim
  • USB
  • Ext. mirrors folding
  • M rear spoiler
  • Sun protection glass
  • Speed limit display
We as you can see from my user details, it’s the diesel pump for me......

Roll on the 10th March when it arrives

High spec every time, I have a F11 523i MSport with a drinking problem.... 450 miles in, 24.5 mpg average acording to the trip computer. The only thing missing is the de-badge... The USB and heated seats are standard on post march builds.

If those were your two choices I definitely would go for high spec. In real world traffic you'll get much more use out of the toys.

Did go for the de-badge also, just didn't include it as it's a no cost option

Agree...also the BIK tax bracket difference of 19% for high spec, verses 28% for high performance was a big thing. Massive saving per month..

Only 33 more days to wait to try out all those toys....

I've owned a 535d touring and a 335d touring both very high spec vehicles. I'm now waiting delivery of a very high spec 520d touring due next month.

I have to admit I wanted a 535d again but matching the spec like for like the car was near £11000 more expensive. I've noticed on other forums that quite a few previous owners of large diesel/petrol engines are down grading too.

Ive lost a fortune on bmw's over the years and one thing I've noticed is that after a few years come resale there is very little in resale prices from a 520d to a 535d , certainly not £11000!

And that's the crux of the matter. I'm going to loads on my 520d as it is. When I add the saving in running costs into the equation it's a no brainer. More than enough to buy a track day joy and fuel that's for sure

Awesome. I'm loving the 35k spec on mine. Tell us what you added so I can be envious.

I agree with high spec 520D but if it was 530D rather than the 535i, I might have gone for 530D with just media pack.

I had £43k to spend on a new company car.....went for High Spec.

520d msport touring
Titanium Silver/Black leather
351m 19" wheels
Sport Auto
Prof Media
Xenons
DAB
Heated
USB
Ambient
Elec folding mirrors
Powered tailgate
Sun protection
Extended Aircon
Lumbar support
6nr Smartphone prep

Taking into consideration BIK tax etc this was the only real choice for me as do approx 20k business miles a year. I looked at a basic spec 530d se and was tempted but in the end the gadgets won!

Very nice spec. Congrats. How you find those 19" wheels. Is the ride still comfy?

Mine not due to early April......I initially ordered in December but then delayed it until a March build so I could add 2011 updates (6nr) . My current (car 2007 A6 avant Sline) the ride is pretty firm and before that I had an E46 330d msport so I like a firm set up!

Driven an extended test drive F11 msport on 19" recently and it was perfect for me.

I went high spec 520d, as I tend to potter anyway so thought what's the point of using 30% of the performance of a 530d rather than 70% of a 520d. Mines only got about 2,500 miles on it and I'm usually getting 50mpg on the (somewhat pedestrian, early morning) drive to work...

So I wasn’t the only one with this predicament.

Ideally I would’ve liked a 535 but didn’t want to sacrifice my luxuries in aid of extra hp, so in the end I decided on a nicely equipped 530d M Sport.

When I test drove the 530 it didn’t feel under powered so that’s what sealed the deal.
