Launch Control on 2014 LCI
While reading my manual cover to cover I'm still confused about a lot of things and I apologize for my sometimes annoying posts but I turn to the BMW Veterans here on the board!
I'm trying to utilize the Launch Control feature on my 535xi but cannot seem to get it to work. I shut off DSC, Put it in sport mode and it kicks me out back to Comfort mode. I do not have the Sports transmission. Is this something I won't be able to have on my model? Thanks! 2014 LCI Luxury Line 535xi. |

No clues about the launch control (yet; I will get mine next Friday) but indeed if you kick it in sports mode and you disable the DSC it goes back in normal. Not good...

Why would you disable DSC?
I would assume you set it to sport or sport+ and press brake and accelerator at the same time, ie same as any car with auto gearbox, to get it to accelerate as fast as possible. Release brake and off you go. |

BMW has this summer introduced a real launch control mode on the ZF 8-speed transmission cars. I guess you would need the SAT to have that feature though. A demonstration of Launch control on a 2014 535d |

I haven't tried it yet in mine since I only have 600 miles on the car but i read it was something like what you guys could already do now.
Put the shifter over to the left Put the car in sport+ mode Depress the brake firmly Floor the gas pedal Release the brake It was somewhere along the lines of that according to what i remember reading in the manual. Alan

I disable DSC to get into my driveway, of all things.
I have a long steep driveway with an off-angle transition from the street. In "normal" mode it's common for one rear wheel to lose contact. With DSC on, the car automatically reduces power to a crawl, literally, to try to maintain "stability" and keep the wheel from spinning. Very frustrating. With DSC off (DTC traction control on), the car allows some slip and it powers through with a little wheelspin. Under more normal circumstances, besides donuts, DSC off is intended for low-traction situations where some wheelspin is OK such as snow. |

mness: Ofcourse, I often disable dsc partly or completely, but this case my comment was related to using the sport and sport+ modes, while dsc button is useless.

I haven't tried it yet but I am assuming cars with launch control will have a set rpm where it revs up to on its own before you release the brake. Seems like a gimmick because cars without launch control could accomplish the same thing by just putting your left foot on the brake while flooring the gas pedal. People usually let the car rev up to 2.5-3K before letting go of the brake. The key is to do this step as quickly as possible to prevent massive heat build up inside the transmission.

Yes, a flag will pop up under the speedometer after both pedals are pressed. Is the car warmed up? The manual says that LC will not work unless the car is warmed up or driven for at least 6 miles/10km continuously. Other than that it sounds like you are doing it correctly except the first 2 steps may be reversed. You may have to put it into SPORT+ (or press the DSC button so TRACTION lights up - either will work) before moving the shifter to the left. This is the order of operation in the manual.

It could be that the car isn't fully warmed up or you aren't flooring the gas pedal all the way down to the floor until you feel the kick down button.
With the car off try flooring the gas pedal all the way down. You will notice a small click at the very end. Alan

Car fully warmed up, and i'm familiar with kick down. So full brake pressure with the left foot, then floor the gas w/ right foot past the click (kickdown), in sport plus then shifter over to the left (done in beginning), I followed all steps carefully. Very strange.
Does the flag pop up immediately, or after 3 seconds. Three seconds with both pedals floored together is awfully long and stressful to the car. What am I missing? |

Instead of putting the car in sport+, try just pressing the DSC button so TRACTION comes up bedside the D indicator under the tach, then move the shifter over to the left and try again. I found this worked for me. The flag pops up almost immediately when you floor it.

Shifter to the left Press the DTC traction button so that it lights up on the dash HOLD the brake pedal down firmly Floor the gas pedal all the say down to the kick down switch Release the brake with the gas pedal still floored The flag on the dash shows up immediately after you press the gas and you have about 3 seconds to release the brake pedal according to the manual. Remember the car needs to be fully warmed up and driven for some time i heard and the steering wheel needs to be pointed straight. Alan

Following these steps and its still not working. Also read the manual on the iDrive screen and it says the same thing, with no luck.
The car is now a few months old, just crossed 4k miles on the odometer. When is the break in complete? The manual says LC is not available during break in.. |

When you are flooring the gas pedal down to the kick down switch is your left foot still firmly planted on the brake pedal at the same time?
Maybe its time for a trip down to the dealer. I am sure someone in the service dept would be more than happy to show you how to do this. Alan
