Beanie, loving the new car, great colour choice, I thought I was brave with the oyster, may try that next time around

Yes but the other way around ...in a way
Was considering the F31 then tried the F10 and after this the F31 felt very small At the end, i went with an F11 because of the kids.
The F31 is way smaller/narrawer than the F10. Jumping from f10 to f31 means that u will be giving up space, quality, ride comfort...etc but if you fancy a little more umph like u said then yeah why not.

I wanted to like the F30, but I test drove a 335i and it was quite noisy and unrefined, even with VDC (car had 19s).

I then drove a 530d with springs, also on 19s. The car was so much quieter and comfortable that I knew a couple of hundred yards into the test drive that the F10 was for me (but also that the diesel probably wasn't, I just didn't like the thrum of the engine).

I recently got an 18 month contract working 16 miles from home, so due to a combination of the commute and the fact I claim all my mileage, it had to be the 550i. The 6 cylinder diesel will barely warm up in that distance and I know from running a E500 it's a tank per week for me including weekend jaunts to the seaside.

I could really have done with the F11 but the dogs rarely go in the car and on the occasions that they do will just sit in the footwells (my children are very small and are in seats so feet don't interfere).

Why not go for the 335d and drop the X, you may lose refinement but will get buckets of performance and driving pleasure instead!
Come winter just put on winter tyres on!

335d only comes with xDrive now, you have to drop to the 330d to have the option of sDrive.

Having just knocked up 1,400 miles since getting the car on Thursday, this car fits so much better for what I need over my old F10 520d. The extra useable space the F31 brings has already been put to good use. The low down power is relentless and a real hoot to drive, yet it happily ticks I've on the motorway at 1,500rpm and eats the miles.

Understand the comments about the F11 instead, but it just didn't float my boat.

The one thing I do miss is the full digital display, I'd got so used to it in the F10, but that's been outweighed by the ACC I now have, which I really do wonder how I ever managed without.......and the adaptive lights - they're mesmerising and must be the work of witchcraft, their pinpoint accuracy is amazing.

All in all, I'm VERY happy with my choice

The F31 is by far a better looking car than the F11, never fan of the 5 touring back design! And with the straight six on a lighter car I bet you having far more joy, best of luck!

Interestingly a 535d saloon only weighs 2.5% more than a 335d touring (1810kg vs 1765 kg).

But the 335d has xDrive.

Have to say I'm enjoying the xDrive. Puts the power down superbly and corning feels very planted.
