Car and Driver Lightning Lap

**************************car-videos-11...g-Lap-2011.htm

I have the new issue at home, here are the videos!

Z06 is bloody fast as well as the Superleggera.

GT3RS still my favorite.

Thanks for posting.
I always look forward to the LL.
Surprised yet pleased to see the Vette take the GT3RS by 2+ seconds!

Enjoy it while it's here. The future will be "DCT" and "TT-I6".

The laptimes are intriguing. Of note to me is the IS-F which tied the vaunted M3 with a 3:05.4. The big Lex is catching up quick...

I don't like comparing lap times from year to year. Hell, even lap times in the morning vs. afternoon on the same day are pretty off. Things point to this year being more advantageous, though.

To me the biggest indicator of problems is that the LP570-4 was significantly faster than the ZR1 on the long straight despite giving up a decent amount of power/weight (15%). That simply shouldn't happen, especially with the Lambo's massive wing and frontal area on par with a small bus. On top of that, the ZR1 came out of the corner before the straight 1.5mph quicker. To me, a faster car with less drag losing 4mph to the slower car says either one driver was stepping on the brakes earlier/more immediately (which says significant things about driver abilities) or that the conditions were significantly better this year.

Sports Cups would shave quite a healthy chunk of time off a lap. Those tires are so soft and sticky with an incredible low wear rating Im surprised they're DOT approved.

Neither do I, then again, I am getting old and expect arthritis to set in shortly. So maybe it's not so bad.

I for one would still take these with a grain of salt considering some of the times.
A z06 should not be faster than a GT3 RS on pretty much any track, but of course driver error would be a big factor here.
Also keep in mind, these tests are done on the same day under the same conditions and this is not a 'run of the mill' Z06. The car tested is the new Z06 with the Z07 options package which ups the ante considerably.
But your point is taken. I await further tests of the two in the future for comparison.

+1

The amount of factors that can change within a year are humongous.

I wish they brought an E90 M3 to this year's LL alongside the IS-F for a proper comparison.

Thinking about it now. You might be right. I might have jumped the gun here.
