If you really think it's that dangerous file a complaint with the MOT and sell the car. Driving a car you deem to be unsafe is foolish.

well having moved from a E39 530i msport that I had from new for 10 years, I think the refelctions are one of 2 big mistakes BMW made with the F10.
Te other is the lack of feedback with the steering which is well documented in these forume.
I thought the E39 was pretty much a perfect car , which is the main reason I hung on to it for 10 years. Only one problme in that time which was just before I sold it and was a failed alternator, other than that, not a single problem. It was obvious that a lot of thought had go into its design.

With the F10 , don't get me wrong it's on the whole an improvement.
But the 2 'features' I would change would be the dashboard and the steering /handling.
If these were like the E39,it would be pretty much a perfect car , better than the E39 in fact.

I must admit when I diecided to buy teh F10 , the reflections was something that was playing on my mind and I did wonder if this was something that was going to bother me. Ass I've now got over 2000 miles on teh clokc with teh car, I can say that its not bothering me but thats not to say its not noticable. Its worst with the sun in front of the car and barley noticable with teh sun lower in the sky behind the car.

I don't know if having the HUD means that the refections from windscreen are any different for a car that doesn't have one?
I also have the climate comfort windscreen but I don't think that has any bearing on the matter.

The reflection is a bit distracting, but unsafe? It is not.

My retired E60 was worse than my F10 or I'm just used to it and see through the reflections. No HUD.

Yes sell on, if you feel it is that bad. I've driven 4 different F10/11 models (all without HUD) and I don't see this issue as any different that most cars out there. My e91 has reflections, if I give it attention. As I've seen in other threads, some folks didn't know there was a problem until told about it and now it has become an issue, they can't get it out of their heads.

I hope the OP has success with testing other brands, as this issue is something that has existed for years and affects many marques. Volvo, Lexus, Honda, Vauxhall, Alfa, Porsche, Toyota, virtually all French cars, you can go on and on. Just google the issue and see how widespread it is. There are ways to cover the dash as you'll find if you go looking.

I remember a work colleague, years back, had a Citroen BX which he loved, but for the fact it had bad reflections of the dash in the screen in certain light conditions. Seems Citroen is still plagued by the same problems according to some users.

Best comment I've read is from an automotive glazier "Look through the windscreen, not at it".

the problme is having features on the dashboard.
The E39 was fine pretty much. If the surface is the same across you don't really notice it but things like the speakers stand out.

At the end of the day, BMW are not going to change this so like it or lump it.

Here's a UK example of the issue.

Honest John's answer is a little more diplomatic.

Exactly. If you focus on looking at the windshield it will be more bothersome. What you should be doing is looking through the windshield. The glare annoyed me at first when I heard about it, then I realized that my other 2 cars do the same thing, I just never noticed.

I'm sitting in my home office at the moment, with my E91 parked outside. I can see through the side window and at the windscreen, the whole dash is reflected in the screen, air vents particularly visible.

I'm a little higher than if I was sitting in the car. If I lower my head and sight the reflection virtually disappears. It has got me thinking... is the driving position making it worse for some? Sitting too high, too low?

It may have some affect, but I don't think that has as much to do with it as some other variables, the biggest one being angle of the sun. Also I have 2 pair of sunglasses in the car, one I wear only for driving, and the other for walking around town. The ones for driving are the darkest polarized lens Oakley makes "Black Iridium Polarized". The other sunglasses are not polarized, and I can't use them for driving because the glare is so bad compared to the polarized glasses.

I have put a non-slip rubber mat there, and it works a treat - dulls the reflection almost completely

I'm will phone the BMW spares dept tomorrow to ask for the " dashboard rubber mat". I know they wont know what I'm talking about but I will let you know what their response is. Almost 2 weeks now since I took delivery and yes........ I am getting used to the reflection but still irritates the hell out of me. I think my problem is my previous M Sport was totally spotless no reflection at all which raises the question of "why go and add one on the new design" . It is interesting that there are so many posts about this reflection and so many interesting ideas on how to overcome it.... this just shows that it is a problem with the design. Any way ....nice and cloudy today so great driving !!!

BMW sells a dash board rubber mat?

Before you put any rubber product on your dash, make sure the material will not melt into your dash. I have seen rubber product make a imprint into the dash from the heat.

I just acquired the F10 and yes there is some reflections from the dash speaker but it does not impact the way I drive at all. Typically when you are driving you shouldn't be focused on something so near sighted to begin with. If you are then there are bigger issues here.

No, I think he was referring to my post... I used my own non-slip rubber mat from Halfords (Car spares) Fits exactly and stays put...
