Found a 2011 F10 with 10k miles
How in the world does it have 10k miles? It was built July 27, 2011. Is it even possible?
How can I make sure that this car's miles was not rolled back? Please note: A non BMW dealer owns it. Should I ask them to send me a autocheck or car fax? How do I make sure I don't get screwed? Last edited by BossBeamer; 02-03-2014 at 10:17 PM.. |

Likelihood of rollback is low. Most dealers will give you a Carfax report for free.
If it is also a new car dealer and the car has the options you are looking for at a price that is fair, go for it. If you sense a red flag or it isn't right, don't. Good luck.

Mine is September 2011 and has 12000 genuine miles on the clock. How? Don't drive it much.
I think if someone was going to roll it back they'd do it to a more realistic figure!

Pretty easily in a 2 car family. My wife's car gets about 2,500 miles a year, whereas we cover close to 20,000 in mine.
I think you'll get a good sense for the veracity of the mileage if you carefully examine the paintwork and in interior trim. On my outgoing F11 (3 years old, 56,000 miles) there was heavy wear on the arm rest where I clearly rest/brace my elbow whilst cruising. That and the drivers seat should be key indicators for you. Signs of wear at just 11,000 would set alarm bells ringing for me. Tyres would be another choice. The front should look about 1/3rd worn and the rears probably half worn. If they've been changed I would be curious as to how they wore out so 'quickly'. |

I'm sure the miles are genuine - it's a pretty monumental effort, as I understand it, for criminals to roll back miles on cars today, especially with it all being electronically controlled. Unless you see symptoms of tampering or things that don't make sense (like service records showing higher mileage, etc), I wouldn't question it.
Most likely the guy just didn't drive a lot - shame. Because the car is at a non-BMW dealer, though, it's worth asking some additional questions. When I see off-brands at a dealer, I usually assume they've been traded, and the owner was looking to get into a different brand. In many cases, an owner may have just wanted a different brand... but it's also worth making sure that the car wasn't problematic, causing the owner to seek a different brand and hence also low mileage put on it. I'd make sure you get all of the service records, speak to the dealer where it was serviced if possible, get the carfax report (not that they're overly useful), and have someone check it out if you're serious about purchasing.

An F10 with low miles like that would likely get grabbed quickly at auction. So, while it may be a trade in, it could readily be an acquired vehicle.
Is the dealer an actual new car dealer? A used car lot? Simply ask about the provenence of the car. If you don't like what you are hearing move on.

I have a 2011 F10, January 2011 build and delivered March 2011 to Hawaii, and I have only 11376 miles as of this morning. The car you are looking at was built at the end of July 2011 so it was probably delivered in September 2011, about a half year later than mine. So it is possible to have only 10000 miles on it without thinking that someone rolled back the odometer.

Know someone whose speedometer fails to work at times. This causes the odometer to not roll. An older BMW, but may want to take a look while test-driving. That being said, think you probably found a gem. Enjoy!

Thank you guys.
Here are pictures of the car the salesmen sent me. It's a used car lot. Take a look especially At steering wheel, rim and brake rotor and seats. Are they consistent with 10,000 mile wear? |

Miles can be low for a car that was in an accident and was not reported to insurance and fixed on side, in prep to sell.
Check for signs but if not, go for it. Seems very clean |

Has clean title. I mean everything looks in order. What brand tires does BMW Use for m sport 351? This car has eagle tires. How can I make sure this car wasn't involved in an accident? Anyone else notice anything? |

That or it was in the shop for extended periods of time... I would get the VIN number and ask your dealership for the service records. |

Current dealer that owns it claims no service records before and after they purschased it as nothing needed to be serviced. Are those tire brands original with what BMW put on m sport 351? If not, is that a concern? |

I don't think any of us can really tell anything from the photos. Certainly nothing looks off or inconsistent.
Take the VIN to your nearest BMW dealer and ask them to run it for you. They might even do it over the phone. Is it still under the 4 year warranty? I would think so. Ask the used car lot to pull a CarFax. Or pay the $30 yourself and check it. Have the vehicle inspected. If everything continues to check out, buy the damn thing and consider yourself lucky!

Oh, very easy. I drive mine only on the weekend. I work downtown and take the train to work, and drive another car to the train station. Mine, built Feb 11 has 9000 miles.

Those are the stock tires BMW uses. Like it was previously said, take the VIN to a BMW dealer and see if anything has been done to it and have an independent shop check it out for accidents and such

Micrometer report for paint.
BMW dealer call with vin number ask all the info Check remainder of dealer warranty Ask dealer to take the car to the BMW dealer for a check and that you will purchase it if it checks out. If not willing to play - walk - this is a BMW Ask in writing if the car has been involved in an accident they have to tell you by law. If later found guilty full refund. You cannot clock a car.. not very easily. People wont take the risk. |
