Damaged tire too big
Bummer. Six month old Michelin PSS damaged. They are 295/30 on my AG M5 retro 20x10.5 ET38. I though they fit after the HR Drop but looks like not. Crap there goes $800. Anyone else experience this? I wonder if dropping it to a 285/30 would resolve it. Hate to go smaller than that on a 10.5" rim.

No, I did hear it rub under twisting circumstances like driveways. It just seems weird that it is just on the edge not gradually across the tire.

I tried the 295s on my AG355 10.5" in my '14 550i and they would hit the fender on big dips, so I went back to 285s like I had on 2011 AG355s and they are fine.
My 2014 isn't lowered and they would hit. I just sold the 295s before they got damaged. |

How many miles are on the damaged PSS? Is that the inside that's worn? All my previous BMWs have worn like that on the inside of the tire -- suspension build plus hard acceleration.

Vinfast - Do you plan to lower? Do you think there will be an issue then? I really want to lower this one like my 2011.

I'd have to check but I assume 7,000-10,000 miles. Not really hard miles, mostly freeway. I did put on HR Springs that lowered the car just over 2" but had it all aligned. Actually twice because I wasn't sure about the first guy.

America Tire says it was a bad alignment but I keep thinking it is so isolated, a 1" area, that it was rubbing.

Hey Alan, sent you a message the other day. Love your car. It's why I got my '14 in Space Gray. What are your wheel spec's and tire sizes. You look very low, which springs did you get.

can you see where it was rubbing on the car? without rubbing on anything, i've seen the exact damage on my own tires before. if it was rubbing, there should be a lot of black marks where it rubbed. you also likely would have smelled burning rubber when you pulled into your garage after a long drive.

Well this is where America's let me down. I have a fleet account with him, I do tons of tires with them for my vans. I sent the car over and asked them to check for rubbing. I then picked the car up and turned it in to the dealer and picked up my '14. I didn't see the tires until I got back because they had been delivered to my warehouse. That's when I questioned the damage and frankly I don't think they really looked, just said it was alignment. Now the car is gone so I can't check. Grrrrrr

i would go for a more narrow tire next time around, but if you didnt smell rubber burning from regular driving, i imagine it is an alignment issue. as i said, i've had identical issue on an e60 that seemed to be in alignment and had a nice looking stance, but they still shredded down to the weave like yours did.

No, I don't plan on lowering because the 704 M-Sport suspension is low enough from the factory and handles perfectly with the AG355s. I didn't have any issues with my 2011 lowered on ACS springs. It couldn't have been an alignment issue with yours.

I assume it's the inside of the tire that's worn out, and there's no rubbing on the inside. Looks like alignment issues.

I had the same problem with the rears of my 20" 356 OEM wheels on stock M sport suspension, it was an alignment issue not rubbing.

Inside. The tire place is very adamant that it was from alignment not rubbing.
