There's ten pages of humour on it here:

A light sensor is the common opinion.

Given the explanation to what it does could it have something to with option code 06AB Ambient Lighting? I have that in my car...

I heard Most of the people who had dots are having Drive train Malfucntion problem???

May be they are marking them as a defect piece? and it seem if you buy a car with DOT you will get 10% refurbish discount???

I have the dot. I also have blind spot detection.

I am thinking that this dot is the ambient light sensor for the blind spot triangles located on the mirrors.

These little warning triangles definitely adjust their brightness based upon the amount of ambient light. It would make sense to measure the light at location of the idrive screen since it is in the middle of both blind spot triangles on the side mirrors.

Anyone with blind spot detection not have the dots?

Oh God, here's another DOT thread. I have it on my F10, but not the E70. IMO, it's not a sensor or a light, just a plastic molding imperfection...

All the above posts prove my point exactly. No one can say what exactly its for or which option it comes with.
