My 550i with Dinan stage 3 mods gets very close to M5 performance for 30k less. I chose to steer clear of the 30k M tax. I came from an 11 e92 M3.

It looks like most 550i buyers out there are getting a pretty good deal on their 550i's and so have more than enough left over to mod up to whatever performance level they like. Seems like the N63T (550) engine leaves a bit as compared to the S63T (M5) to allow tuning up to M5 performance standards at a cost of maybe 1/5 the price delta even if one goes for Dinan parts.
  • Aftermarket Exhaust - $2000-3200
  • Dinan Stage 3 Tune - $3800
  • H&R Suspension mods - $300
  • Dinan Intercooler -$2600

Even at that price you're still way below the price of an M5 similarly equipped. Best deal I've seen on one so far is $98k and that was minimally optioned. Fully optioned 550i or 550ix have been going from around $65-75k so you do the math! For some the M5 is the only way to go...for others the 550i is an option. Its all about choices gents.

BTW does anybody know if you need the Dinan Intercoolers to go to Dinan Stage 4? Or can you do them in stages (i.e. add Dinan Stage 4 then Intercooler) or must they all be done in conjunction at the same time?

You can go stage 4 without the intercoolers, but you wont gain anything from the stage 3 tune. There is very little difference in tunes between stage 2 and stage 4. The power bump comes from the hardware (exhaust/intercoolers). The tunes simply optimize the performance of the new hardware.

You may get similar M5 performance in a straight line but not anywhere near to the handling or braking performance. I think the 550 is a great car but it's no M5 that's silly.

Thanks I have Stage 1 plus an aftermarket exhaust [Eissenmann Race] os I think I'd get some bump/gain/optimization as you say no?

Yes the F10 M5 will outperform a F10 550i (Stage 4 or above tuned) on a track due to its upgraded/performance bits (suspension/brakes/DCT etc) but with upgraded parts on a F10 550i (suspension, Dinan tune/Intercoolers/BBK) then I think the 550i would acquit itself adequately against the M5 for 99% of most drivers on the street legally. Now of course the track is a whole different environment and of course the 550i will NOT and cannot be expected to be an M5 in that arena.

Just went to Stage 3 and Shockware software today. Previously had just Stage 1 and H&R Springs along with my Eissenman Race exhaust. Anyone know what I should expect as far as drive-ability?

N63 Dinan intercoolers

Need some advise.

2011 550i xdrive.
Stage 3
Meisterschaft gtc

Recently purchased the Dinan intercoolers to help the performance as I am generally in warm climates.

Stage 4 on the Dinan site does not reference intercoolers at all but imam reading is advised here.

Is there a benefit to the upgrade or at all without intake?

Thanks in advance.
