Rear cigarette lighter

I have plugged my dashcam into the rear cigarette lighter. However I have found that unlike the front, the power stays on constantly, rather than turns off when you turn the ignition off.

However, does anyone know if this is the case? I left my dashcam on overnight because I forgot to unplug it. I unlocked the car this morning and heard my dashcam turn on. So does the cigarette lighter remain on until the car is locked??

Any help please.

I believe it powers off when the car is locked, but not 100% sure, the front one definitely stays live after the ignition goes off, but does power off when you lock the doors.

It does go off eventually but it can be a few minutes after you have left the car.

Today I was sat in my car whilst we crossed under the channel. Once boarded on the Eurotunnel I shut down the car. A few minutes in, some systems powered down. A few more minutes and more powered down. A few more then all systems appeared to shut down including my dashcam and the interior lights came on. After 5 more minutes the red parking brake light came on on the dash and the dashcam powered back up then a few minutes later, the whole lot powered down and stayed that way until we reached Folkestone.

I have no idea why these things happen like this but I do know that eventually (think 20 minutes) the car systems (including the accessory sockets do power down)

Its amazing what things you learn just sitting in a turned off car.

Thanks for everyones replies. It looks like I have been worrying about a flat battery for nothing then. I can leave my dashcam plugged in leave the car.
