I doubt that, if you know what you're looking for its not hard to distinguish an m5 from a regular 5, debadging it would hardly fool anyone and seeing as how you label all californian superficial I would clearly note nobody in their right mind would debadge an M5 if they owned one.

"I had seen another 520D the same and it looked very clean..."

Just out of interest, with the exception of a 535 all F10 from the rear look the same (not mixing SE or Msport), how did you know the car you looked at was a 520...??

Why? If one likes the clean look, I would think the multicolored look-at-me M badge would be the worst one to have on one's car. Besides, most of the cars I see with M or AMG badges aren't actual M or AMG cars.

The M5 is a Q Car. A really smart guy would buy it in Space Gray or Singapore Gray, or Imperial Blue, with the standard 19" wheels and then debadge it.

Unfortunately not all of us are that self disciplined.

response within context...my response is inregards to stealth comment that we californians are superficial therefore his response was to the individual who debadged his 5 with quad exhaust was to fool others into thinking that it is an M5, well being supericial and all you wouldn't think an m5 owner would debadge their car would they?

They wouldn't remove just the 'd' so I went for the full debadge

Now I'm busy on eBay and I think I've located a BMW Nazca M12 badge (couldn't find a Z07 badge) so just need to find that old tube of superglue in the garage

My 550 is debadged.
Agree with prior points:
1. Stealthy
2. Cleaner look
3. My personal preference- to each his own

I have the badge on my car because:

- 80% debadges
- it looks nice

I understand a lot of 520d or 520i owners want people to think they have a more expensive 5:er...

Let it go!

Only BMW drivers would be so bothered if another BMW driver decided to de-badge whichever model they had. It's an option BMW offer as is professional Nav over business. It's up to the individual, and it shouldn't make them any less a BMW owner than someone who doesn't de-badge. Get over yourselves and let enjoy driving our beautifully engineered machines. That is all!

Of course it is up to the individual, I am just a bit surprised that it means so much to certain people to impress or fool others...

Or is it equally bad that those who put the M badge on the rear of their 520d M sport or dare I say 520d SE cos they think it may fool a few folk?

Regardless as to why people debadge it isn't idiotic like someone who falsely rebadges as a higher model.

Like i already said all of my cars are debadged and so is my current 335 simply cause it looks cleaner and easier to wash/wax/dry the car. Isn't debadging an option in europe provided by Bmw themselves?

Debadging is a standard option in the UK. We are so anal about status that it's an absolute necessity for those who can only afford entry level cars

The only reason I still have a badge is because I could get it in black. All chrome is gone. First thing to go was the XDrive.

I believe de-badging started in Germany in the 1970s recession and fuel crisis.

The big bosses didn't want the workers to know they had a 450 SEL 6.9, so in some cases the 6.9 came off, in some the 450 SEL as well, and some went even further and added 280 S badges instead.

I believe the next big event was in the UK in the 1990s, maybe other countries as well, where the done thing to show your status and importance was to have a BMW 3 Series, BUT you didn't want to advertise the fact that it was a povvo spec 316i, so off came the badges.

Debadging is a standard option i Norway as well as UK. My dealer said almost every car he is selling is debadged. No matter what the engine is. And I have to say I have yet to see a F10/11 with a badge on it here.

In Sweden I'd say the opposite is true, probably 80-90% of the F10's I see has their badge on.

Debadged 316i's were very common here too though back in the day.

This week I have travelled nearly 1000 miles around the UK, most of which was on the motorway, with a few exceptions all F10`s I had seen were de-badged.

From what I have seen, It seems only 530 and 535 owners tend keep the badges, I saw only a few 520`s with badges.

I think I am fortunate to drive a 535, but if I had a 520, i`m sure i would be just as happy.

Overall, I still think if you own a BMW, you should be happy and proud to drive such a great car, such a pity some choose to drive this brand and so it seems be embarrassed by the engine size...doesn’t make a lot of sense to me....

Let's face it. The badge is fugly! The only badge I would keep is the M5 or M550d. Both of them aesthetically displeasing, but for the purpose of pissing off socialistic retards.

Darn. Everyone will think I'm driving a 520d. I knew I shouldn't have selected the 'no model designation' option on my 530d, and it's in production so I can't change it

I never quite worked out why BMW don't have any styling cues to differentiate the 6 cylinder models from the 4 cylinder models. Why change the styling for a 535d and not a 530d? But nothing to differentiate a 530d from a 520d which costs nearly a third more. Not very Teutonic.

No, they won't. Most of the 530s are dbaged as well. But why do you even care what people think?
