I completely understand you're feeling. My dad has an '08 535xi Wagon that he loves to death. While it was being serviced, he got a new F10 528 loaner car. I took it out for a drive on my own. It feels much like Audis from a few years ago. Big, heavy car, with a small turbo motor to do the work. The car has absolutely no top end grunt and there is quite a bit of lag down low regardless of what the #'s suggest in terms of bhp and torque. I understand that we need more fuel efficient cars, but that motor should not even touch the 5-series lineup. Next we'll have these 2.0L motors going into the X5's. I'd rather have a diesel in the 5-series. Plenty of torque (duh), and excellent fuel economy.

BACK ON POINT, sell the car privately, and drive both a 535 and a 550. If it's cost you're worried about, just get the 535 as it should be cheaper.
