Big question -- hows the motor? I was super close to picking up a 2013 550i with the old motor. It had good power, nothing phenomenal, but smooth and felt fast. Curious if you can feel the difference in the extra 35+ hp

nothing phenomenal is an interesting choice of words. anything that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds stock outside of a super car is pretty phenomenal imo.

Yes. If it were a manual, it would have a clutch.

My butt dyno tells me that the extra 45 ponies in the LCI is definitely noticeable. Very smooth, tons of torque, no lag, just put it in Sport mode, floor it…and hang on! I also just added a BMS N63 Stage 1 tune and it made it even quicker still. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the car after 1200 miles. And fuel economy is not as bad as I was expecting. I'm averaging 18.4 mpg for my "normal" driving (about 30% light highway and 70% rural - no real stop and go); and got 26 mpg on a 200 mile highway trip last week. By comparison, my previous 535i got 22.1 normal and 32 highway. I suspect my numbers will get better after the car is broken in.

So the new N63tu engine doesn't change the parameters of the BMS Stage 1 tune?

No. I verified this with Terry at BMS before ordering it.

I may try out the BMS this time. My 2011 550i I just sold had the Dinan Stage 2, and it was impressive. But the cost of this BMS tune is almost too good to pass up. Is it very difficult to install?

I guess what I was trying to say that, yes, the 2013 550i I drove was certainly fast, it just didn't have a visceral urge to it. 10 years ago, a 4.8sec 0-60 M5 had a wailing, shrieking raw feel. The 2013 550i 4.8sec 0-60 felt (to me) very ho hum fast. Semantics, and factually inconsequential, but I stand by it. Gimme some sensorial feedback along with the thrills

I agree. That's why I'm looking at muffler options right now. I'm leaning towards OEM M5 mufflers as I want a "subdued growl" as opposed to a boy racer sound. Maybe 30 years ago I would have gone more towards something nastier.

The installation took all of 15 minutes. No surprises, though smaller hands would have helped!
