LPFP Wires cut and spliced
My fuel pump went out on the highway, without warning I might add. As a result I’ve done a ton of maintenance over the past week. Tonight I changed the LPFP. After removing the cover under the rear seat I noticed the wires were wrapped with electrical tape and there was wire insulation around the pump seal. I unwrapped the wires and they had been cut and crimp connected back together. I’m just confused. Why would the previous owner or maybe a shop do something like this? If someone had installed an aftermarket pump I would think the wires would be cut in the tank. Not the factory plug on the outside. Can anyone on here think of a reason my car would have had the factory pigtail cut off at some point?

I've had the car since about 30,000 car has 96,000 now, I'm not exactly sure on the lifespan of an OEM pump but I was assuming it was still the factory pump before I opened it up. Seems unlikely the factory pump would have gone out in the first 30,000 right?
