Battery Replacement Cost

Just sharing for anyone needing to replace their battery.

Mine was about 6+ years old (original factory battery) and has been throwing an error code that its time was up. Shopped around for best prices and was shocked that getting the same OEM battery from the dealer was by far the cheapest option. Depending on where you look, it's $50 (Advance Auto) to $130 less (Batteriesplus). Came in at $155 +tax (+$18 for core - refunded).

Installation is also easier when you're coming from the original factory battery because you simply register it in ISTA+ as replacement of previous OEM battery and use the QR code imprinted on the outside. Make sure to take a pic of the QR code before physically installing it. Lesson learned.

What battery did you get? Where are you located? In FL, dealer wanted $350+tax for a battery for a 2011 535i about 6 months ago

I got it from my local dealer in VA. I looked up the right part on realoem.com (which matched the part # on my old battery) and just ordered it through their online site and picked it up. That simple.

Forgot to ask, was that with installation or just the battery? If with installation, then makes sense. Figure 1hr labor for installation and programming.

If just the battery, then yeah they're def. adding a markup over list price. Unfortunate, low, and shameful practice by most dealers, but not illegal.

So, uh, it was more expensive at Advance Auto and Batteriesplus than at the dealer? I guess more.

Battery Purchased from my dealer: shorturl.at/fmMQX

Advance Auto: shorturl.at/bdioN

Batteryplus: shorturl.at/cdST3

Again, just lookup your battery from realoem.com (use your VIN for accurate results), cross reference to get the list price from my dealer (above) or getbmwparts.com, then call up your dealer and order it for that price.
