Help!! Which one should I buy??
In the market to replace my daily.. I have 3 cars I am looking at and not sure which way to go. Here are the options:
2016 340i xDrive with Sport line ~27k miles 2016 535i XDrive M Sport ~29k Miles 2016 C 450 AMG ~39k Miles 340 is the cheapest, C450 is most expensive; all in all they are ~3k apart I have driven them all except for the 340, plan on doing that today. The AMG had me at the burble exhaust note, but I know I can make the happen on both the BMWs. I plan on tuning, stage 1, maybe stage 2.. I have always wanted a 535 M Sport, but not sure if I will get the fun factor I would with the 340 or 450... A larger car would be good, but not necessary. Wife has 2016 X5 with BMS intake and Stage 1. Thoughts..?? |

I would absolutely go with the 340i... I got a 535i because at the time I needed the bigger car with 4 actual adult size seats but now that I have an Expedition I wish I had a 340i. B58 is much more powerful and greater potential aftermarket and so much better for handling. I feel like there is much more aftermarket for the B58 over the Merc but if you favor higher quality interior then I'd go Merc.

Not sure what kind of fun factor you are expecting with a 535, or any F10 for that matter.
What about a 2012-2013 C63 AMG? I've heard that the naturally aspirated 6.2L M152 engine is very reliable, as long as you don't buy a pre 2011 |

My current car is a 2013 Subaru Legacy, so pretty much anything is more fun than that haha. My commute sucks and I spend most of it in traffic, so comfort is a big requirement(I should have mentioned that). Subby has killed my back... That said, C63 is too much car for the miles I do on a daily with the traffic.
I drove the 340, great car and I liked it better than the Merc. But decided ultimately to take the 535 m sport. The comfort level is what got me and I think I can make it fun with a few go fast parts. Picking it up today. Thanks for all the input everyone! |

Congrats on the new car! I think you'll really enjoy your 535i. Although they're not a "tossable" sports car, they're surprisingly dynamically competent when pushed and the powertrain provides a certain amount of fun in and of itself. Plus they're thoughtfully designed and the systems are typically very well executed. Small things like how well the cruise control works in practice, the quality of the gauge cluster, the level of system monitoring, etc. I've had (and loved) a 6MT 335i but I'm also thoroughly enjoying my time with a 550i. Different kind of car that's brilliant for it's intended use.
Enjoy! |
