What's a vent valve?
Took the car in today to get the wood trim on my center console replaced because the guy who installed the Lojack scratched it all up. Anyway, my check engine light had been on for the past week and a half but there was no message as to what might have been wrong. I just thought it might have been that I didn't screw on my gas cap but even after two more fill ups, it was still on. Well, it turns out that it's the vent valve. My SA says it has something to do with the emissions system. I looked it up but I can't find anything on it. Then again, I only searched for about 2 minutes. Do any of you guys/gals know what it is? Has anybody else had that issue? It's on a 2012 535i with 2000 miles. Thanks.

I'm assuming they took the car from you for repairs? Clearly a warranty item. |

Hopefully it isn't more severe. Even with this "little" issue, my car has been in the shop since last week. They told me the parts had to be special ordered from Germany.

Update - my car had some sort of misfire or vent hiccup (I don't have the paperwork right now).
They cleared the code, drove 10 miles, and said everything was fine. My prediction is that I will have this issue re-appear. |

You're probably right. I hope it doesn't re=occur, though. My dealer told they had fixed one part of the problem and that i could pick up the vehicle while they were waiting for the other part to arrive. My SA told me that it would drive fine but that the CEL would come back on. I told her no. Just to keep it and get it fixed correctly. Hopefully I'll have it back tomorrow. It's been a week and a half without my car.

OMG, they actually told you you that it was acceptable for the CEL to come back on after a warranty repair? In a $65,000 car, no less?!
I would have been irate! |

This is what showed on mine.
PERF VEH TEST W/CHARGER.FOUND FAULT FOR TANK VENT VALVE.FOLLOW TEST PLAN AND RECEIVED DIAG CODE1330_B0000000_02_002 TO REPL TANK VENT VALVE.TANK VENT VALVE IS ORDERED AND CUST IS WAITING.CUST WILL RETURN FOR REPAIR. My SA said they replaced this but they also needed a hose to completely fix the problem. Hopefully I get my car back today.I was surprised that my SA would offer to let me get my car back without it being completely repaired. But to her defense, this is the second time my car had been in the shop in the last month. And I've only had my car for a month. I think she just thought I would want to enjoy my car.The first time it was because I had hit a curb and scratched up my rim. They repaired it under my wheel and tire insurance. On that note, my SA told me that even if I decide to put aftermarket wheels on my car, they'll be covered under this insurance. |
