18" 19" or just do it 20"
Hi all...
Am very tempted to change my original 18" on my new 535 GT to either 19 or 20".. Saw from some sites the 20" rims look awesome on the GT.. Just wondering whether anybody upgraded their rims and how it feels from the 18"... Thanks ! |

i changed from 18" runflats to 20" normal tyres.
there's a bit more noise, but wont make too much of a difference as the GT does not do a good job cutting down outside noise anyway (maybe due to the frameless windows). in terms of comfort, it's fine. do note that comfort levels are also affected by the tyre pressure. i've got mine at 35 fronts and 36 rears, its a bit bumpy especially over humps or potholes. nevertheless, i fully recommend changing to 20". gives the GT a totally different look (for the better!) |

Larger tires may look better, and they have the potential of higher cornering forces (most people would never use), they DO affect comfort levels. The shorter sidewalls on the larger tires just can't flex as much. This can become a major headache if your roads aren't nice and smooth...a pothole can mean almost instant failure on a really low-profile wheel and tire. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with no spare, so I would not suggest replacing the run-flats with 'normal' tires. That's a decision you'd have to make. I suppose if you never went far out of the city and had good service, you might not have to wait too long to get back on the road again. The advantages of run-flats (I'm not sure I really like them, but with the GT, there's no place for a spare) are: less weight to carry around since there's no spare, and you have the safety of not having to stop to replace the failed tire, and more storage space.
If I was going to go with larger wheels/tires, I'd stick with run-flats. Where I live, it's not a great idea as we have snow, potholes, and some nasty weather periodically. Plus, I drive through some pretty barren places, a long way from help and often cellphone coverage...I'd want either the run-flats, or a spare in case. |

Quite happy with the standard 18" runflats. Can you see your great looking 20" tyres when you're driving? So it's just for onlookers? I'm settling for the smoother ride! Too many potholes/bumpy roads on my daily drive!

20's all the way for me. Put my winters on the factory rims. I've ordered 21's for my summer rims. They make a huge difference on looks and still ride nice. 18's are small for this car.

did you put your winter tires on the 18" rims and did they fit over the brakes, etc with Sport suspension?

Could not find winter tires for my 20" rims but solved the problem with a set of 19" rims and Blizzak tires from Tire Rack. Good price and great service.
Very glad I did as have struck heavy snow on travels these past two weeks.
