Exclamation F11 instrument cluster problem

Hello guys, this is my first thread here so sorry for anything.

My instrument cluster keeps turning white at night for like 5 seconds and goes back to orange, my first guess is the sensor but where is it located? spent all day searching about this issue but can't find anyone with this problem.

The headlights apparently does not affect the instrument cluster, it's another sensor.

It's a BMW F11 2013

Thanks for any help

The phototransistor that determines night/day mode is somewhere built into the instrument cluster.

There can be 3 different types of instrument clusters...but the phototransistor is probably located in the same place for all 3:
  • Basic
  • 6WA (high version)
  • 6WB (all digital version)

You can see 2 of the different clusters below...the 6WA (which has a digital display that goes all the way across the bottom section of the cluster and the anodized rings are open on the bottom (similar to a horseshoe) when the cluster is off. The basic cluster has 4 anodized rings that are full circle, and you can still see the gauge graphics when the car is turned off.

Thank you so much for replying, my guess is the sensor is that small circle in the middle of the dashboard, it has no light so it can be the sensor. Do you know if it has a fix? or do I need to buy a new dashboard? It is not cheap.

I have the 6WA

Thank you again for helping me!

Unfortunately I do not know of a fix.

Ok I tested the sensor and it is what I said, with a flashlight pointing the sensor it changes from orange to white, I also cleaned the dashboard and to this day it didn’t happen again. Thank youuu!
