Short shifting in manual mode

I recently picked up a MY15 535i M sport.
I have noticed that while manual shifting using paddles the system short shifts me sometimes. For example when accelerating I shift to 2nd gear but the system short shifts me into 3rd, roughly at 3k rpm. Is this normal?
I have never experienced this with my last car which was a MY12 328i.

That's odd. I've never encountered this with my 2014 535i. When using the paddles, the transmission holds the gear until I shift or hit redline, as it sounds like yours does most of the time.

do you have the car in DS or D when this happens? In DS it shouldn't intervene apart from in extreme cases of revs too high/low.

in D using the paddles is just temporary and the car will take over shifting after a short time.

It happens in either case whether DS or just D. I have noticed this only happening when I upshift to second gear and it shorts me to third. Maybe I am shifting too close to redline in first and my upshift and the manual override kick in at the same time?

I have also noticed that in Sport + mode when manual shifting with paddles even when you redline the system does not upshift you, it keeps you at redline.
