Edwin are you able to give some feedback as to how you are finding adaptive drive? Do you feel it's better than the regular M Sport suspension?

Thanks

I'm really keen to hear a subjective comparison of an M Sport vs car fitted with Adaptive Drive in Sport mode.

Salesman told me that Adaptive Drive in sport mode handles as well as M Sport but with much better comfort but can you ever believe sales!!!

Also, when fitted with AC Schnitzer springs, will BMW provide warranty on the Variable Dampers with them?? Normally dampers are uprated to suit stiffer springs and if not dampers are wrecked in no time.

I never tried an F10 with M sport suspension, so I cannot make a comparison with that config.
My frame of reference is a bunch of e90s, e92 and my e87 130i, all of which have the M sport suspension.

Also, any comparison is complex, because there are a lot of (interacting) variables to be considered. My 535 has adaptive drive, IAS, 19" rims, Pirelli winter runflats and the Schnitzer lowering set with shorter/stiffer springs.
Compared with my former BMWs, all on M sport suspension, 17" or 18" rims, winter/summer runflats and traditional steering, I would say (and I ain't no Lewis Hamilton :
[*]
  • Steering feels lighter and little bit more artificial but still sharp and precise with lots of feedback. At low speed the car feels more nimble then it's size would suggest. (I think IAS is a big factor).
  • Potholes and bumps are handled much better, even in Sport mode.
  • Straight line stability is better, the car hardly reacts to road imperfections and seems to glide on rails. My e92 and 130i could/can sometimes react unpredicatable to grooves and ruts.
  • Tyres are just as quite (even if they're 19" RFts).
  • Handling is a little less sporty, but still very good.

Overall I would say the 535 handles as good as my e92/e87, just a little less sporty. I guess you cannot deny the fact that this is big car. And yes my 130i feels more sporty than my e92. But I can still throw the 535 around corners with as much fun and confidence as I did with any rear drive BMW.
To me, the big difference is the fact that the car has much better comfort and behaves less nervous.

By the way Schnitzer told me that "the ACS lowering springs in conjunction with adaptive drive deliver a little bit better comfort than M suspension springs".

Hopefully, this comparison gives you guys some clues. However, the best advice is to test drive both configs, but beware of all the variables in the equation.

Yes, I had that confirmed. Besides I had the set fitted at the official BMW dealership.

Edwin thank you for that feedback. If adaptive drive even in sport mode is a little less sporty than M Sport then it's probably not for me. I'll probably be better off with the M Sport suspension and ACS springs.

The colour of your car is just gorgeous. Is carbon black the same as jet black?

Thanks

Edwin, sorry mate but it's not an M Sport. Can't be. I have it on authority.

No, jet black is non-metallic black. Carbon black looks black or very dark blue depending on conditions.
To me, the car looks black in direct sunlight, in artificial light it looks dark blue.

It is an M Sport only paint.

Hey congrats, everything looks fantastic.

Is there a change on the side skirt on the m sport?? It looks like a different rear diffuser and front bumper.

Also very curios about the warranty as well as is there a reprogram for the edc to make it stiffer? I find the damping on sports or sport plus to be too soft!

Hi Edwin,

Does the lowering causes problems when taking speedbumps?
Your car just looks fantastic. Can't wait to have mine delivered

No, not yet anyway. And as you might know we have a helluva lot of 'em in Suburbia NL.

Hi Edwin,

Thanx. At this moment I'm still driving my BMW 325i Coupe, which is lowered by 3 cm. At most speed bump I almost have to stop the car completely to pass them. Very annoying, but it makes the car look so much beter. Same as your F10.

About snow chains, do you know if they will fit when the car has been lowered?

It's Oyster Black Dakota Leather with Fineline Anthracite wood trim.

The leather is perforated because of the seat ventilation option. Looks pretty cool I think.

Sweet interior.

So you got both sunblinds (416) and individual dark windows (761)? I've got that too on my e90 + tinted front side windows.

Yeah, plus electric sunblind / rear windscreen (415).

It looks badass while actually it was meant to protect our baby boy from sunrays

The rear of the car is do dark that from the outside you cannot see a person nor the entertainment set.

Edwin:

I ordered a 535 Carbon Black with Oyster Black, thanks to your post and my seeing one at a dealer last month.

On your car, you have the chrome strips on your door handles. Did this come automatically with the M-sport Package OR did you also order the ambient lighting option?...I did not order the ambient lighting option and am hoping my car comes with the chrome strips; if not, would you know if it is possible to order the chrome strips and/or purchase new sets of door handles that do come with chrome if my car comes without them/

Thanks.
