328i Loaner.. Pretty NICE

So I took my 528i in for an oil change and got a 328i loaner. This thing is NICE. (Comfort Access. HUD. Nav. Prem Pack) I was surprised at how quick this damn thing is. I guess since my F10 doesn't have sport or any suspension goodies im missing out... but this car is FUN to drive. Dare I say its more fun than my F10.

I think its time to get some ACS springs.

BTW... How many of you let the dealer wash your car when in for service?

never - the "hand wash only" decal in the door jamb stops them everytime

Like I have said many times, the N20 engine is pretty good in the F30 but a bit under sized in the F10. f10inSD, you can mod your F10 until the cows come home, it will never handle as well a F30 with sport suspension. Two difference car with two different design intention.

yes 328i is quick because it has the same engine as the 5 and weighs less. Imagine 335!

but the 3 series sport seats have got Nothing on the multi contour seats in the 5's.

Had one too for a loaner. was very quick as you say. Great car. But compared to my Dinan S4 550i with Intercoolers...I did feel at a loss somewhat all around! LOL

I've been in a 2013 328xi loaner (with only 3,000 miles on the odo) for the past two days and the thing is a POS. It really does a disservice to the BMW brand due to how cheap the interior build quality is. I think a Honda Accord has a better interior. Fake metal trim, abundant and thin and matte black plastic pieces everywhere. Buzzy-sounding motor (bring back the straight 6). The auto start-stop feature is very abrupt and jarring. The only good thing is that the 8AT (and sport mode) seems to shift more smoothly than on my F10. I haven't experienced the new F30 335 yet, but I hope it's not as big of a disaster as the 328.

That's interesting because on the F30 forums, members constantly bash how "un-BMW" it is. That car seems to get so many different reactions.

I have to agree that the interior is cheap. I was glad to be sitting back inside my F10 when I got her back.

I guess if I were fresh out of college or got my first real job a 328i would be awesome. It still was a pretty damn fun car to drive.

Last loaner I had was a 316i

Cheap interior and no guts at all. If nothing else I wish they'd sort that dash out, the iDrive screen looks like a tablet has been glued on as an afterthought.

Agreed. This is a horrendous trend going on by BMW, Audi, now Mercedes. Literally looks as unresolved as you describe it. Marketing wants of to believe that they're like "Flatscreen TV's" or "iPad's" on dash's. Firstly, a real iPad or real flatscreen is appropriate where it was intended, it you get what I'm saying. Steve Jobs would have never designed an iPad to sit on a cars dash, for example. It sounds like an excuse for them to try and milk some current trend.

To me, it's an excuse to cost cut for them, somehow, as it seems they don't have to design an interior to wrap around an integrated screen, therefore can save money? I dunno, it just appears that way.

I had a 328i as a loaner over a weekend, and I drove it to Cape Cod. I got 34.5 MPG on the trip -- close to twice what I would have gotten in my 550i. I liked it, even though it was pretty much a base car. Of course, I was VERY happy to get back into my own car, manual transmission + all the goodies.

Its a bit interesting to read about some F10 owners trashing the F30 and some praising it. It seems to me that some owners are just looking for a car that perform well and nothing else, other than a BMW roundel of course, the F30 fits their needs. For some here who are looking for quality, performance, etc, more of a all around car, the F30 does not live up. I am in the latter group. If I were to pay $44K to $55K for a luxury sport sedan, it will not be a four cyl with interior material that is sub par and an engine note that sounds like a Honda Civic.

to that.

I love the F30 for what it is, but in every single aspect aside from nimbleness it doesn't compare to the F10, seems like it's built in an entirely different BMW sector (which it actually is, as the chassis and parts come from a whole different source and/or suppliers in many cases).

The 4 cylinder is a deal breaker. I honestly don't care how well it can perform, that sound and working nature alone will always be akin to any 4-banger Honda to me. Just doesn't feel "luxurious" or "expensive" if you catch my drift. A BMW's gotta be an I6 or V8 (or V10 or V12 I guess in some cases. )

Kinda how I felt about the new 3 series. Just returned a 2013 328xi loaner after three days.

....then I got back in my car...damn it felt like I wont the lottery. The 5 is not as nimble as the 3 series (obviously), but definitely more luxurious and most importantly very quiet.

Different car for different purpose I guess. All in all, methinks 435 could be my new city "put put" (don't really appreciate the N20 acoustics in the 3 series).

I was just at a BMW dealer sitting in an F30 and was appalled by how "Fischer Price" the interior is. I got a picture of the door shut line area where there's a big gap between the panel and B-Pillar therefore you can see exposed painted metal. Like on an old Pickup Truck or cheap American Car. Also I found the plastic on the new M Sport steering wheel to feel very hard and cheap and the buttons chintzy to the touch and click sounds.

I parked next to a new f30 and had the same feeling.
The f10 has a good combination of metal and plastic, the F30 just LOOKS like its made entirely of plastic
