F it, I am going to pull mine off too and send them out to get painted AW. I feel like that little chrome is killing the look I want. I also just ordered a Thule rack for my car with areo bars and thinking of powder coating the stainless black. After that I am done, yeah right as my wife would say.

Can you put a pic up of the M spoiler you put on?

Should have my parts on Tues so I'll be updating soon...

You can see the adhesive is very thin. I found a 3M Scotch brand "Indoor/Ourdoor Mounting Tape" that is much thinner than the standard mounting tape. I think it will work.
If it were me I'd try to get adhesive the exact same thickness. Of course if it were me I wouldn't be as daring as you.

I'm not sure if that is what you're saying or not on the tape you found.

various adhesives: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...beJNXTCSZ9FZgl

check the urethane, comes in many thicknesses

Removed the door trim today as well as side marker light trim. Sent it to the auto body shop to be painted AW. I picked up 3m tape at Lowes, but mine was listed as outdoor. Hope to back on the car Friday.

I also sent my Thule areo bars and ski rack to be coated black.

Thanks for getting crazy and trying this and then sharing it with us. This post should be a sticky in the DIY section IMO.

Peace

Hey Krash,

Just took chrome door strips off today, piece of cake thanks to your instructions This should definitely be a "sticky" in the DIY section.

The adhesive looks very thin though, much thinner than most double sided tapes.

What adhesive did you end up using for reinstallation?

Thanks in advance!!

I'll try the adhesive in my previous post and let you know how it goes. Still waiting on my parts.

Yes, the adhesive is very thin. Worst case, I'll try multiple layers of carpet tape.

Did you match the body color?

I bet a lot of people will follow after our pics are up.

Krash7172 needs a sticky for this.

Well, I just noticed some of the small front tabs are cracked and have broken. I have new motivation to get the adhesive figured out! The 3M stuff I have measures 0.042". I put a few 1" pieces on the trim for a test fit. I removed the backing from only the front piece. Not bad. I am confident this permanent outdoor mounting tape will work. I think the 1/32" thickness (0.031") would be better.

If I had any patience, I would have tried to find some 3M 4925. I think it is the 0.025" version of what I used. I used Dupli-Color Prep Spray per the body shop. I also left a little room by the rear tab. I think the extra foam thickness puts a little pressure on it.

I was a little worried when I noticed the broken front tabs. Not anymore

that looks good man - the black ties into the black trim around the windows and looks like it belongs there

Guys, I just wanna share with you my version of trim mod. I asked the window film guy to wrap the trims with dark window film. No need to take out the trim. The color now is dark gray chrome. Kinda matching my gunmetal rims.

For the side gills, I just purchased the aftermarket matte ones.
