Shift into Park accidentally?
Hello,
I've had my '13 528i for about a month now. On a recent trip, while trying to put a drink cup into the holder, it occurred to me that the holders are very close to the Transmission Selector Lever. It would be all too easy to accidentally press the Park button. Is it possible to put the vehicle into Park at high speed? Has anyone ever experienced this? Thanks for any input. |

Was actually wondering this the other day, but concluded it had to have some sort of lockout mechanism or it would be a recipe for disaster.

I press it quite frequently when I'm bored. It does nothing.

It does nothing if the car is above 5mph. Also, I have pulled the Park brake button at high speed (100+), it brings the car to complete stop safely as long as the button is pulled.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. At some point, I'll probably test it out. But not for awhile and not when my wife is with me! Good info about the parking brake also. Thanks!

Sometimes, if something is perfect as is why change it? Give me the old solid gear lever, the hydraulic steering, the sweet straight six (without the turbo) and the perfectly sorted suspension without all the techno wizardry of DHP. In other words, give me back my E39 530 sport. so much of the goodness is gone. |

When I read the manual, it stated that pulling will bring the car to stop.
So I wonder how can you do drifting with hand brake? No option on F series then!

You can't really do anything by accident anymore since they went electronics with everything. If you turn off the car without putting it in park, it will put it in park too. I tried all kinds of things to throw the systems off but I have to say it's pretty fool proof.
When I was a teenager, I threw my 92 Camry into Park at 20mph. It went into park and locked up. Amazingly, it did not wreck the transmission lol. That car was bulletproof. |

1. Pull up on parking brake lever and hold. 2. Floor it at a stop light. 3. The engine will not rev since you're holding pbrake. 4. When the light turns greens release the pbrake. This saves a few ticks. Why? When you floor the car from a stand still, BMW hesitates on purpose kind of like an "are you sure" dialog on a windows box. Releasing the pbrake while floored bypasses this hesitation since the system knows you are sure. |
