F10 weight/performance issue?
According to LeftlaneNews they just reviewed an F10 535/550i and some numbers they got have me concerned.
According to them the 535i tipped the scales at 4,090 lbs- thats a little more than what the old 550i came in at if memory serves me right. The new 550i comes in at a whopping 4,376 lbs.........WOW. If this is true than performance is bound to be affected- espescially for the 535i. The old E60 535 ran 0-60's around 5.3-5.6 all day long. With this weight increase though it would probably increase to 5.7-5.9......not good. The 550i though getting more power also increases weight by 400 lbs. This means any speed advantages will be negeted. For example the E60 550i w/ a manual tranny road tested at a 0-60 of 5 seconds flat. The new car even with more power will probably just beat that due to the weight increase- maybe 4.9?? My point is that even though the F10 improves interior quality quite a bit and is an even more gorgeous car is that truly worth the weight penalty? Until actual timed/monitored road tests are done by C&D and others we cannot be sure but those weight numbers are not a good thing either way. I think Munich needs to go on a diet....... |

Yep - I'll bet that in seven years when the F10 replacement is being introduced, the talk will be all about how much weight was dropped. I'm a big fan of the F10, but a 4400 pound 550 is a big downer.
