Hey guys so I'm thinking of installing my DP back on my 2014 550i but I wanna try my hardest to keep it as quite as possible. And also not smell gas as much. Any recommendations?

i think as far as the gas smell that has to do with the installation. as long as there's no leaks you should be good. as far as sound it's been known for DP's to increase the overall tone. i'm sure of this as i've watched countless before/after DP installs on YouTube

Theres a company called AR Designs that sells Catted and Catless /w resonator downpipes. The one that comes with a resonator is for people that want to reduce drone and sound. Also I heard people that have installed Vibrant resonators to tame even more sound. So for the sound there are a couple of options like the ones I mentioned.

i remember seeing that thread somewhere? i wonder if adding those Vibrant resonators has a negative effect other than toning the exhaust note down like taking away a few hp?

As far as I know they dont affect performance, but maybe someone that has these resonators could shine more info.

I have the catted AR dp's & I haven't had any issues. A small sound enhancement & def adds a little pep to the overall performance. You can still occasionally smell the fumes, but it's still pretty rare.

Ideally I wanted to install them myself, but I just don't have the time over the weekends. I had a shop local to me install them; took about 2 hours. Cost was less than $300 for install/tax.

cool! i'm mechanically inclined but have yet done a DP install. i saw what needs to be done but wondering how hard/simple it would be even tho it could look simple and straight forward those could be the PITA!

I dont think its too hard, but it is a pain in the arse based on where it sits & from what others have told me. I think it would be fine. I might have to remove mine before I go for yearly inspection, so I might do that myself and replace with stock.

I attempted to, the midpipe and dp connection was a PIA. I eventually took it to a shop and they had to drop the whole exhaust because it was that much of a PIA.

Is AR back in business? Or is this just more inventory?

I have cat less AR DP's, with Borla m5 axle back exhaust on my N63TU, with an X pipe replacing the pancake resonator and I?t was too loud. I added resonators right before the flow through the X pipe and I'm very happy with the tone of the car. No drone in cabin, in idle you don't hear I?t, and unless you hit hard I?t purs!!!
