Ventilation holes in leather interior? Good/bad
Hello ALL of you nice people,
I'm trying to decide on the interior leather and I'm wondering about the version with the small ventilation holes, is it advisable to go that route? I have attached a photo of this type of leather. |

Ventilated leather is typically in conjuction with active ventilated seats that have fans that circulate cabin air through the seats. IMO, it helps with comfort some especially on long drives. At the highest fan speed, for me it gets a little annoying after a while as I can actually hear the fan motor. I still ordered them on my 2014 F10.

Only downside is cleaning them, hard to get the dirt out of the small holes.

I used Google to search for this photo and it was only found on this thread! If you have more real life Mocha leather photos please upload them here.

I have them on my Oyster interior. It keeps the leather cool, but I've never experienced that "refrigerated butt" feeling. My wife has a Pathfinder platinum with ventilated seats and those things literally cool your backside.

I have them and so far like them quite a bit. Also, when the weather is cold you can turn the fans on with the seat warmers and it will help heat you up!

I have ventilated seats in my car and love it. The ventilation on the highest setting is great after you've worked out and hop back in your hot car. Also, IMHO, it makes the Dakota leather look nicer.

I love my vented seats I would buy a car without them. Yes, when the fan is on high you can hear it, but on medium speed not too bad. Cleaning can be a pain, just don't use a pasty leather conditioner.

Has anyone seen the LCI 5er with the ventilated seats in person? I've read that the rear seats do not have the perforated leather and I'm hoping someone can tell me that's not true!

I have a 2014 528i with the Luxury seating option. The rear seats are not perforated, but I didn't get the rear heated seats option, so maybe they come with that option.

Thanks for letting me know. I have a 550 on order with the ventilated active front seats and the heated rear seats but I have a feeling that the rear seats will not be perforated either. I wonder why they would choose to not perforate the rear seats for the LCI. I have never seen any other bimmers with ventilated front seats not have perforated leather in the front and the rear.

I have a Canadian Spec 2014 535xi Msport with comfort seating package with ventilated seats and heated rear seats that I took delivery on August 10. I can confirm that the rear seats are not ventilated. Maybe on a 550?

Not on the US Spec of the 2013 550 with the same package. I guess they didn't want to hook up the fans to the back seats or figured they would rarely get used. I can say after 9 months, I doubt mine would have been. I really like it on very hot days in the front seat though!

Do either of the guys with the ventilated seats happen to have the mocha interior? I am very interested in seeing what the cabin looks like with the perforated front seats and non-perf rear seats, especially with regards to stitching on the seats. Any pics would be greatly appreciated! |

I love having ventilated seats in my car. Great on hot days and after you work out, and I think it makes the leather look classier. I agree, however, that they're a pain to clean. In the balance, it's worth it to me.
