Getting rid of swirls?

Once you get them, How can you get rid of them? Please let me know any good shops near/in Jersey City that do so. Thanks.

I can vouch for Phil's work. They do amazing work on your paint and will come out looking better than new.

claying is not a bad idea, however if you decide to polish you can do so, do you have an orbital machine?

Dinan - Since your car is black which is the most pain in the ass color to maintain I HIGHLY suggest you just take your car to Phil over at DetailersDomain. If you don't know what you are doing chances are you are going to make the pain worse. Let Phil work his magic and from there on he can give you some tips to maintain the paint finish.

Well since I know that when you recommend someone, they are good lol. I was just asking because one of my buddies has all these nice polishing/cleaning tools which he uses on his E60 M5, which looks immaculate so that's why.

P.S. PM me on painting tailights

contact Martino Auto Concepts if you want your lights done. They are a sponsor on the 3 series section. Any body shop could do it honestly.

I use Zymol cleaning wax once a year, it's the best. It removes all minor imperfections.

My mistake. Polish = Remove material. Wax = Add material. Zymol and similar products fill in the gap where swirls are seen, making appearance that the swirls are gone which is my goal when detailing my car. In most cases, the swirls will come back after x amount of car washes or 6-12mos.

BMW paint is only about 100-150 microns thick, so polishing (removing paint) the car every year after seeing swirls isn't a good idea. I like using a cleaner wax product first, if that doesn't help then I'll use the polishing + wax alternatives.

Cheers.

Removing Swirls

If you are into detailing the car yourself I highly suggest you visit the Autopia web site. There you will find instructions on professionally detailing your car along with all the products you'll need. NOTE: I am NOT a Autopia employee though I have purchased their products for several years now. There are many other sites that sell like products. What I liked was obtaining the know how and which products to use to remove swirl marks.

That said, I have a dark metallic blue 550 that can also show swirl marks pretty easily. I use a light compounding product (Swirl Remover) with an Porter Cable dual action polisher ($125). The combination of this compound and polisher produces show room results. No Bull. The entire process of detailing the car is labor intensive (I could never make it a profitable business given how much time I put into the effort) but the results in my mind are worth it. Based on what I do, I don't think a professional shop can duplicate the depth of my results in just a few hours. "Try it, You'll like it"! Good luck.

i took care of my jet black this weekend using M205 and followed it up with NXT2.0. I used a LC Orange pad set to 4500rpms.

It removed i'd say 95% of the swirl marks. The previous owner must have taken it through the car wash every week. Im extremely happy with the results and it was simple. just have to be patient and take your time.

i buy my products from Detailer's Domain and do the Detail job myself, it's not for everybody especially if you have no garage and it's 100 degrees outside.

Cleaning

Hi there,
I know a lot of people are going to shoot me hahaha -
i pre wash my car with water ( warm water ) - i have never touched my car with cold water - cold water solidifies oil/grease/wax etc - i always use a new microfiber to wash the car - i use ONLY Palmolive dish washing liquid to wash the car - i know its dish washing and not car washing - but it leaves the car streak free - no oils - nothing - i use separate materials/buckets/cloths for tires etc - bumpers and hoods/doors/roof/glass are not to be treated with same microfiber - i never dry the car with any cloth - i spray turtle wax quick detailer on the wet car and let it run a little dry (moist) - i then use new microfibers to shine the paint (very gently) - my neighbours say "cant ever keep up with you" - the local dealership is like when they see my car - see attached pictures - some day might do a video - btw b.jpg, paint isnt chipped, its shinning - after a long drive on a dry day, i can see dust on the hood, but i know its stuck to the turtle quick detailing wax and NOT my paint - relief !
