528i Launch Control

This video appears to show someone perfectly executing an ecu controlled launch on an f10 AT 528i in DS mode with traction off.

I have read numerous inconsistent threads on whether or not it is possible to launch this car (or any non-DCT / M series BMW, for that matter). Can anyone shed some light on how this particular youtuber was able to pull this off in an f10 528?

Thanks!

I don't have the answer. However, without a proper launch control on the car, he's really asking for it!

It's hard on the car, even when it does have launch control.

It looks to me that this guy had the break on and was revving upnbefore releasing the break hence the skidding. With Sport+ on my 535 with JB will skid first and second gears briefly before dynamic traction control will kick in and stop it from skidding. You can not completely turn off DTC on these vehicles anymore. I guess the only way would be to pull the fuse but then I would not be sure if the car would operate normally it might be programmed to automatically reduce engine output if that should happen who knows..

If you hold down the traction control button I'm pretty sure you can turn all of your traction off.

It says its turned off but it will intercede if your car starts skidding you can try it out. It used to be that way in the older models!

I tried to turn TC off in my 550 the other day in the rain but it does not want to turn off. I think I'm going to have to screw with it some more

It pisses me off cause everytime that damn thing starts flashing it cuts off power from the engine... If anyone here's got a way around it let us know.

So exactly how hard is it on the car to do a brake launch? I'm tempted, but don't want to really mess something up.....

He clearly holds the brake while accelerating, then releasing the brake and gives more throttle.
Strange, here in Europe you can disable the ESP in two different ways:
Short press, lets wheel spin
Long press ( 10-20 seconds or so) = lets wheel spin, let's car do 360 degree spins etc etc.
The driver of this video has it completely shut off, you can see both ESP lights are gloving.

You can do that here to in 'Merica. Maybe not everyone reads the manuals....

RabmleJ,
I have had german cars since 1994 and know how to operate them. My last BMW E60 2007 you could disable the DTC completely by holding down the DTC button. Now on my 2011 F10 even by holding down the button (and the message coming up that its turned off) you can not spin more than a brief second and then you start seeing the dreaded flashing triangle meaning the system is already intervening plus you can feel the engine power cutting off. Now the question that I pose is did you try this? or are you assuming that it would behave like the older models? There could be a difference between Canadian and american cars who knows. All I know is once you engage DTC off, the car does not have the same potential power and will not spin off like it should. Please chime in everyone as I would like to know if this only applies to Canadian cars.
