i have switched from RFT to regular Michelin PS A/S and only time i had a problem was when i hit a huge pothole, so right front tire had a bubble and i had to drive about 800+ miles to have it changed, since then not a single issue 20,000 miles later. but i live in GA not in NY.
I was in NY earlier this year, and your roads are horrible!!!!I thought that if i lived in NY, i would put 16" rims and massive tires on my car. |

Yes non-rft have much fewer bubbles. And they handle better.

If they're both the same brand/model, then RFTs will feel tighter and stiffer compared to non-RFTs. However, if you are comparing RFTs vs non-RFTs at the same price then you're right. You'll get more for your money with non-RFTs.
RFTs are heavier compared to non-RFTs, so there's better unsprung weight advantage with non-RFTs. Less unprung weight = better performance in some cases. |

The lighter unsprung weight performance difference manifest itself mostly during acelaration, but the difference is so small that unless you track your car, there is practically no difference. The gas mileage should be a fraction of a MPG better with the lighter converntional tire as well, but again, too small of a difference to be taken seriously. The biggest difference to me is the cost and the larger selection of non runflat tires. |

A couple of weeks ago I hit a pothole so hard it made my jaw ache for a week. I was glad I didn't have runflats on because I would bet that the stiffer sidewall would have cracked my rim along with the tire. I did get a cut in the tire, but I made it the 3 mile ride home before it was really flat. I'm not bashing runflats, but they are not for me at all.

I never had a blow out, I monitor my tire pressure twice a month. Tire blow outs are cause by incorrect pressure, poorly built cheap tires, and road hazzards. I don't buy cheap tires, keep my tire pressure in control, so I just have to avoid road hazzards (which is fun). So no, RFTs do not appeal to me. Same goes with extended warantys on electronics, etc (I like to live on the edge)... I had RFTs on my X5 SAV, the noise drove me nuts. I switched to DWS and never looked back, it's so quiet. I don't about yours, but my wife carrys a .38 and can't aim for shit so the bad guys should be worried about what she can do to them. Plus, she'll never roam through a bad neighborhood by herself. If she does run into that situation, I can see her driving with a bad tire until the wheel falls off. |

I hope I don't jinx anything, but I have the newer applied Pirelli P-Zero RFT's and honestly can't complain. It's probably due to the superb chassis/suspension on this car more than anything, but they seem to be RFT's that get much less complaints than others.

Runflat is not for everyone, thats why I agree with some members here that BMW should offer runflat as an option, not standard. |

RFTs have a stiffer sidewall. Theres been many reviews showing non-rfts handle better.
