Tire Insurance Replacement with Different Brand / Model Tires?

Those who have wheel and tire insurance, have you ever had two or more tires in need of replacement on a single service visit, where you were able to have your service advisor replace all four tires with a different brand / model tires and where you paid the difference in cost, if any?

Both of my front Goodyear Excellence RunOnFlat's (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....utoModel=750Li) need replacement and I'm considering either the:

Continental ExtremeContact DWS (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....r+After+9%2F10)

or the

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....r+After+9%2F10)

Upon some quick calculations, I'd need to pay an upcharge of $170 for all four Continentals or $230 for all four Michelins. From past experience, I prefer Michelin, which look better too, but the Continental's have a higher rating and are less expensive.

So, two questions:

1. Is it even possible to do what I'm contemplating (I've e-mailed my service advisor, but haven't heard back yet), and

2. Which are better, the Continental's or the Michelin's?

Thanks!

Do you have the original paper work from the insurance provider that BMW uses? that should have those kind of details. I'm assuming they would replace like for like?

Yes, I believe this is it, but seems to be a no go; thanks though!

BMW's wheel and tire protection will not cover the replacement of RFT's with non RFT's.

I had an interesting experience with BMW's Wheel & Tire protection on my last service visit. After multiple trips to Philadelphia from the DC Metro Area, my car needed 3 tires and had a bent wheel which wasn't causing a tire leak. The Wheel and Tire Protection insurance company had to send out an adjuster to inspect the car and tires. Wheel and tire protection covered all 3 Goodyear LS2's but didn't repair the bent wheel! I ended up having the wheel repaired and refinished for $200US at Ye Old Wheel & Welding in Maryland. I was shocked that Wheel & Tire Protection didn't fix the wheel, even though it wasn't causing a tire leak!!

Also, you might want to consider Toyo Proxes 4+ tires as a replacement for your RFT's! They meet the Load specifications and are a great replacement Performance All Season Tire.

Good luck,

Will

Thanks for this great info, Will.

Yes, I've come to learn the policy will not substitute with anything different.

Otherwise, crazy they didn't cover your rim. Did you ask why? Are you going claim for the repair?

I wish you good luck as well!
