i vs. xi floor mats

Anyone know if the floor mats are the same for 535i and 535xi (2011)? I want to get weathertech mats for the winter because as much as I like my BMW rubber mats, they don't help the salt that migrates up the carpet where the mats end. On the weathertech site, they only offer mats for the F10 with RWD, but it is now a year since AWD is available, and they still don't show mats for xi, the same is true on the site for the 750, only shown for i, not xi. So I think maybe they are in the same, but it is not spelled out on the site.

Wouldn't there be a small hump in the back row of the xi? Not really sure coz I've never been inside one without AWD..

If you mean will a mat designed for an X Drive car fit into a car with RWD. Seems like they would be the same. If you're talking about the all weather mats, they look different, but I can't imagine them not being interchangeable between models:

I have the weathertech mats in my xi and they fit perfectly. I see no reason why they should be different between the i and xi.

I don't know about the Weathertech mats, but the drivers side factory BMW floor mats are different for the i and xi. The transmission tunnel is slightly more bulged out (about 1") on the drivers side with the xi. The passanger side front and the rear mats are the same for both the i and xi though.

I found this out because I bought a spare set of factory mats. I have an i and the spare mats were for an xi. The xi mat fit poorly well around the transmission tunnel. I later found out there are two different part numbers for the i and xi.

If anyone can take a photo of the driver's side on a non x-drive car, will be greatly appreciated.

I checked with the parts desk at my dealer, the guy there told me they sell the same rubber mats for i and xi, but not sure if I trust him, he answered too quickly only looking at a sheet of paper he had beside the computer. I have gone ahead and ordered the digitalfit mats from Weathertech, I hope they fit, if not I can send them back.

gatoman, I think you've just answered my question. The floor mat in your photo looks different than mine, mine is not straight along the transmission tunnel, there is a small hump just forward of the seat, I assume for the transfer case, and the mat follows that contour rather than being straight as yours appears. Interesting however, because I looked up the all-weather mats in oemparts and it is the same part number listed for i and xi models. I guess I will know for sure in 7-10 weeks when my mats arrive.

sorry to confuse you, but this isn't my car but I know that this is a picture of a 2011 535i with x drive.

AVIMAX if not asking to much, please let us know how they fit.

What I am looking for (as AVIMAX did) is to buy the 'FloorLiner DigitalFit' from weathertech.com. You can't choose a car with xdrive for 'FloorLiner DigitalFit' mats. But... if you go to 'BavarianAutosport' they have the same mats but won't make a difference between xdrive or non xdrive.

Here is the OEM driver's side on my xdrive:

gicamuci, I'll update this thread when they arrive. Their site says 7-10 weeks due to popularity.

An update, the mats arrived from Weathertech and the driver's mat does not fit, so i and xi do have different shape mats. Seems there is more of a bulge in the transmission tunnel for the xi. Oh well, hopefully Weathertech will get the xi version out soon, especially since the 535 and 550 are only available in xi form in Canada.

AVIMAX thank you for this update.
So the driver's side doesn't fit in any way ? Will you return them ?

Because of the 'friendly' fees UPS charges for stuff coming from US to Canada, I was looking at buying from weathertech.
I will either order from bavauto or take a trip to them in Portsmouth, NH.

--------

Update: bavauto doesn't offer any more the 535xi mats (same as wheatertech's). I guess they figured out the same thing we just did, i mats are different than xi.

I have the all-weather weathertech mats in my XI and it fits perfectly. Is this not what you ordered?

mrcamp,we are looking at Weathertech's Floorliner Digitalfit mats. Allweather mats you have are different than Floorliner Digitalfit. Floorliner Digitalfit mats are not rubber. Look here:

The allweather will probably fit because they are soft and so they will sit on top of the extra size of the hump in the transmission tunnel. The digitalfit mats are more rigid and so they just will not work. You could use them, but 1/4 of the mat will not be sitting flat on the floor.

gicamuci, I have already sent them back, not to the US, but Burlington ON, close to where I am. There is a Weathertech Canada website and office. When I called to get my return authorization #, the woman there told me that according to the information she has available to her, there doesn't seem to be any plans to develop the xi mats. Strange, seems that it would be a good idea, especially for Canada since you can only buy the xi versions of 535 and 550 now here. Too bad, they really would have done a nice job of saving my carpets from the salt. The BMW rubber mats just aren't good enough for the job.
