Question F10 535d M SPORT 19" TYRES QUESTION

Rears done on, my F10 535d , need to change, but still plenty of life in the front michelin run flats.
Would like to ditch run flats for smoother none tracking ride, but fronts too good to ditch yet.
Can I change rears to non run flat and still run with front run flats, have 19" m sport wheels.
Any advice appreciated.

I would NOT run RFT and non-RFT together. All, or none.

You'd be surprised what part-worn tyres would fetch on ebay, if you took the fronts off now.

Manufacturers (car and tyre) say don't. That carries a lot of weight with insurers so you could find yourself in trouble if you were trying to claim following any loss-of-control-type incident.

I wouldn't do it (that carries no weight ) but plenty of people on these forums have done it and said it was "fine". Whether that means "fine when I'm driving about" or "fine when I had to suddenly change lanes at 90 mph in the wet to avoid a lorry" is up to you to decide.

Garage List
I would not be putting budget tyres on a 5 series, never mind one with over 300hp. Choices are do all with decent non run flats and sell the part worns on eBay, or just buy another set of run flats and keep going until eventually all four need done at the same time.

I'm with Frobius. If you have 300bhp+ and really need to save money, buy cheap wiper-blades.

I've found the hard way. On my old 1.4 Vw polo I have cheap generic tyres and I took a slow right turn in the wet and the whole car nearly toppled. It was that bad. I had cheap generics on my clk when I didn't know the importance of tyre brand and quality and that car would snake in the wet.

The chaps above are all right. They've got safety first. Esp with the 300bhp. You need some proper grip and control going to those rear wheels.

You won't regret it.

^^^ 100% in agreement with the above

Easy to take tyres for granted as a necessary "evil".

Should not think of the tyres like that; they are more important than any other part of the car - it is THEY that are in contact with the road, often wet and slippery, and impart the power to the road to propel forward and direct the car (hopefully safely).

Do not skimp or mess about with this in a powerful car like the 535.

Don't skimp on tyres, whatever the car / power output. As shiner says, they're the only thing between you and the road surface and need to come with a wide variety of conditions. I have a winter wheel/tyre set for both cars, it's more expensive to have that and it's not about the occasional bit of snow (as a lot of people think), it's about being able to stop and turn in cold and wet winter conditions, they're the right tyre for that condition.

The latest Michelin run-flats are fine on my 535D M Sport, as good as tyres get IMO on none "M" cars.

+1

Same as John I have primacy hp

Fantastic all round tyre
Mileage life
Road noise
Grip
Wet grip
Cost

Got 32,000 miles of summer and winter use out of them with still legal tread on it

For the last three winters I've had Pirelli sottzero so the primacy should still have more miles left.

I've not heard of the primacy 3

Are they new?

I thought Primacy 3 gradually replaced Primacy HP in Michelin's lineup from about 2011 onwards.

I can see here that you can still get both:

https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyr...n&sp%5B1%5D=on

but the newer tyre is cheaper and has better EU ratings

Another good thing about these HP's they have a good anti-curbing rim protection , it's about 1/2" deed. Saved a wheel yesterday at the entrance to the rotherhithe tunnel east bound, it's so tight their if you come out from riverside just no room to line up.
