Air intake scoops for 550i
Guys,
I bought a sheet metal brake and sheet metal shears a little earlier, so why not put them to use? I made a template for air intake scoops, and fit them up. A little paint or powder coat and these things would be good to go. And to think RPI charges ~$150 bucks for these things. Thoughts?

Looks good, but there are reasons why they charge that amount. If your angles are off even a bit you could actually restrict the air flow instead of allowing for more.

Nice job! Looks pretty good. What color are you going to powdercoat it?

I think it's cool, at the end of the day I would say if you have access to a dyno that'd be the only true test. Or if there is a way to measure air flow in the logs.

Good effort OP!! No reason not to attempt this yourself to see if there is an actual improvement without spending $100
However, Not trying to shit on the effort but I do wonder if anyone who builds these like RPI has done an actual simulation to see if they actually improve air flow. Since Im sure BMW engineering team (and every other manufacturer) probably does run the simulations to optimize air flow. Otherwise you'd see scoops on the M cars as stock at the minimum..if not every car they build.. |
