I dont have a 550 but I know a muffler delete will cause drone. I'd recommend a resonator delete first.

What brand cutout? And did you put it after the resonator/ behind muffler ? And why only 1? Thanks! Looking to do this to my 550t

I went with a resonator delete (no X-pipe) and Magnaflows.
Minimal drone at 1.5 - 2k RPM.

The drone has grown on me...so now it is all good. I love the sound.
It seems the exhaust note gets better with age too!

The non-xpipe set up didn't cause unbearable drone for you?
I may do the same then. thx

been debating the same thing..... seems like resonator delete first is good. I did the zip tie on the vac flop.
and what is this drill holes before mufflers I've read?

Yes thanks for all replies, me myself was leaning towards the resonator delete. As if you take out the mufflers I bet there will be hell of a lot drone. Even if you put magnaflows in I am sure it will drone some.

I was thinking just to cut out the resonators, how will I benefit from the x-pipe?

I did resonator delete with open flaps, good cold start but not noticeable unless accelerating aggressively.
Installed custom 3" piping with Magnaflow mufflers, waaaay too loud w/o resonators. Reinstalled resonators and good deep tone, mild drone under 2k rpm but amazing note during acceleration.

Resonator delete by itself while keeping rest of exhaust stock will do barely anything as blu550 stated.

Best bet is to get 2 borla xr1 mufflers and put those on. If you desire deeper tone, delete the resonators as well.

Downpipes will give you a VERY good bump in exhaust noise. My friend just ordered some for under $400 and we installed them the other night. Sounds unreal.

sorry to jumping in... but how old is everyone in this thread? reason I ask, I used to have a Merc E550. And with it being a super quiet V8... I did the same thing... went with a x-pipe... than quickly went with after market muffler. sounded mean as hell, like a v8 muscle car. but after a year or so, got really tired of it. put stock muffler back on and kept it just with the x-pipe and find it kinda nice. it's a little more than stock but not loud. I'm almost 40 and maybe I've just gotten too old for loud cars. even tho all of my cars in the past have been loud.

The solution I believe is going to be a exhaust dump valve. There is cable controlled and electronic versions, but there's mixed results. You could consider the armytrix to maintain youth.

I have custom mufflers made for the F10, just took them off today cause I'm selling my car soon. Makes car louder, deeper and way less drone than a muffler delete. Crackles on downshifts & upshifts with the M sports package. I'm looking to get $500 out of them, let me know!!!

Best bet is probably m5 competition package mufflers and then a resonator delete to help deepen the tone.

i think you meant EVC which is basically a flap that opens and closes with the push of a button which will quiet the exhaust down
