AFE cold air intake dry

Gentlemen, I am looking to purchase AFE cold air intake..wondering if there is any real benefit to adding this mod. It seems to go anywhere from $300 to $600 with the box. I hear it ads a nice sounds and advertised with 25hrs power gain. Is there any truth to this or if its even worth the money? whats your opinion?

If the reason is to add horse power buy a tune instead. AFE's advertised HP I don't think is true however if you entertain the 25 BHP - 15% powertrain = 3.75whp. 3.75 hp is not worth 3-600 dollars nor would it be noticeable via butt dyno. If you want it for sound then get an open air filter and remove the weather stripping from the engine bay.

AFE has posted graphs, its not a peak gain but rather area under the curve. I have it on my car and I'm happy with it from a sound increase point, performance wise I didn't notice much if any difference seat of the pants.

I agree for the money it isn't worth while, unless you can find one second hand in good shape for a lot less, or a discounted new one on eBay or something.

Any experience in comparison of the AFE versus the BMS in terms of sound? I have the BMS and don't care for the unfinished look of it. I'm not really expecting any gains, just interested in sound. Is the sound of the AFE comparable? If so, I may try to pick up a used one myself and sell my BMS.

BMS is louder than AFE without a doubt. Its not a huge difference though in terms of sound.

BMS's is a hot air intake though, where as AFE retains the factory ductwork feeding it cool air. If you've ever opened the hood after a drive you know how hot it gets in there.

Thanks for the input. I will stay factory and mess with it at all.

True, I have jb+ and definitely feel the difference. Worth $200. Friend of mine has jb4 and no extra power at all. Raced and finished the same.

Bbmw535 JB+ is a nice bump. JB4 is nice to have the dash controls. To get more power on a f10 535 you need a flash and to get extreme is a mission I'm on. No pun intended.
