F10 535i vs E60 M5

Hi,

I am in the market for a mid-size sedan since my family is growing. I am leaning toward F10 but afraid losing all the "fun" of my current 3-series for larger space.

New F10 535i is about $60k, used certified E60 M5 costs about the same. Which one would choose if you were me and why?

Thanks.

As much as I love any M5, I'd have the F10 (or even the F11 with an ever growing family, trust me you'll use the space...)

My reason for the F10/11 choice, every time you see one sat in your M5 you'll think I wish I'd had one (the argument works both ways) but nothing beats a new car, everything the way you want it, colour spec etc, the call from the dealer to say she's arrived, the build up and the possibility of a European delivery, verses someone else car that they don't want anymore... Even if it's an M5, I know what I'd choose...

My vote is for a new F10 535i rather than E60 M5

I always prefer buying new cars

I would usually go with the older M car, but in this case, BMW has outdone itself on the new styling and making the car bigger and just plain and simple better. Go with the F10/F11, you will not regret it. I was going through the same dilemma and just recently pulled the trigger on an F11 with M Sport pkg. Honestly, I couldn't be happier.

I don't think either car gives you any practical space advantage over your 3. If you like sporty, get a new E90. It really has no less usable interior space.

Thanks guys for the input. I will test drive both cars and see what I'll find.

For those who have owned both cars, what do you guys think? I know it is kind of apple and orange.

If I had gotten the M5, everytime I had seen a F10 on the roads I would wish I had gone for the new car. Because I would always feel I have the old retired version.

I have had this feeling with my e39, but was consoled by the fact that the e39 looked so much better than the e60 even though it was older. With the e60 vs F10 that would work against you as the F10 looks fantastic in comparison.

So to me the answer is very easy, go for the F10, it will be the newest best looking 5er for atleast 5 more years.

It really depends on your priorities. Granted, the F10 has a much nicer interior than the E60, but the E60 M5's performance more than makes up the difference.

The interior and trunk space is still very reasonable in the M5 (I went from a E90 330i to the M5 due to my "growing" family). It's great having a family car that can still hang with Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

If I were to go from an E60 M5 to a F10 535i, it would require that I have a 2nd sports car also parked in the garage.

I was in the same position as you debating whether to get a e60 m5 or a f10 535 but I ended up going for the f10. If you want a beast go with the m5... But the f10 is nice overall also!

Couldn't agree more on the E39 M5.

As much as I love E39, I will feel like going into the same interior as my e46 with bigger space.

It has started to look old as well. it looks very classic though.

I prefer the E60 M5 over the F10 big time, looks nicer (IMO) faster, sharper .. but use more gas, slightly less space. (no big deal)

F10 is more expensive, app. $70K cad here(535i), vs 06/07M5 is around $55K cad..

However, my wife prefer a new car, and she quite like the "safe" look of the F10 .. so we traded the E63 M6 to the F10 ...

I am still regret about it .. but the F10 is a nice car still.

Well, the E39 5 was a nice car at the time but this seems a little over the top...
