Can i do stage 2 with only intercooler

On my new LCI 535i xdrive, i want to get a tune, and upgrade charge pipe as seems it is a weak spot. I was thinking to get an intercooler to cool air and be easy on the engine. Regarding a downpipe, i was told a changed downpipe would not pass emissions inspection, so if true wasn't going to get that. i don't want more sound from engine, i want it quiet as possible. if i get just new charge pipe and intercooler, and get MHD or BM3 tune, should the car run well if i pick a standard "Stage 2" map? or would i need to do other mods before setting it to "Stage 2". thanks

You can look into high flow catted down pipes which will offer some performance benefits but also allow you to pass emissions. The only downside is the higher price. Otherwise, most Stage 2 tunes are designed for high flow or catless downpipes so you should be fine. IMO, do NOT run a Stage 2 tune with the stock cat in place as the higher heat will cause the cats to melt and then severely restrict exhaust flow.

Just like other thread, I'm going to rely here that it's not recommended to run a stock downpipe as you can damage the engine from what I've always heard. And I don't notice a difference with the stock mufflers and high flow downpipe besides the startup and when getting on it when it comes to sound.
