Maybe 2017? Saw somewhere that it may be a hybrid option. In Europe, the gas vs diesel option is about the same cost. In the USA, they have been charging a pretty big premium, and over the life, you'd have to drive an awful lot to overcome that initial cost premium over the gasoline version. But, the torque and mile/tank on the diesel can be a big advantage.
The refineries in Europe are geared to make more diesel than gasoline, whereas, diesel is more of an afterthought in the refinery process here. Then, their diesel is also cleaner, and they don't need the admix to clean up the exhaust with the extra tank and periodic refills that BMW covers in the USA. As a result, the diesels sold here are not the same as those sold in Europe. |

good analogy...
ive lived in europe for about a decade and have always driven diesel engines there...always happy with diesel performance. i owned 2 gasoline cars (F10 and F30) in Canada the past 3 years and compared to current F25, they just devoured fuel !!! (again, compared to the diesel) although my X5 diesel consumes much less fuel, and diesel is typically cheaper than gasoline in Canada (at least always cheaper than premium and half a year cheaper than regular), it is not only the cheapness but the lesser attempts to visit the gas station. my X5 consumes less than my ex-3series gasoline. the engine is awesome, ground breaking and quite...the torque is a monster...and its cleaner for the environment...i have a ford edge that aches to start and accelerate while my diesel X5 eats it up for brunch...and with all fairness, when i compare my ex-X3 with this ford in terms of fuel consumption, it is nowhere near competition...i'm basically at a gas station every 2-3days with this Ford thing!!! so i would still applause the gasoline engine of BMW over other gasoline brands...but essentially nothing i could complain about the diesel engine...which would also be my next vehicle...either new gen 5GT or a new gen 6 Last edited by Shaw; 11-05-2014 at 09:50 AM.. |

Yes, it quite possibly may be 2017. I hope they are not going to place iDrive screen as a half of an iPad sticking out in the middle of the dash, as they do on all other models nowadays...
