I found another 12V cigarette lighter jack
I figured I'd post this because I was quite surprised to find it.
It is located is under the glovebox just above where your passengers left foot would be near the foot area light.

Excitedly ran to the garage to see if I had one. Found the hole but no lighter socket Would have been a good place to plug a USB power point for my mobile wireless hotspot.

My present F10 does not have the extra outlets just one by the cup holders and one in the rear. As I use Tom Tom and carry an electric cool box in the boot ( trunk) when on holiday I added extra sockets having identifying the parts needed. In the boot there is a recess in the plastic panel by the catch, about an hours work will see a 12V outlet fitted. In the passenger compartment footwell is a 20 or so hole that takes a 12V outlet. An hours work will see a new socket fitted with parts from BMW and a fuse jumper sourced from USA via EBay.
I have recently placed an order for my new car. An option is extra 12V outlets, one in footwell, one in boot and one in the armrest. Cost £30. This is less than the price of parts and saves 2 hours fitting and as much again sourcing parts. One of the best value options on the car. Not sure why I need the footwell outlet now as I have gone for the new Pro Nav on a week 37 build for UK. |

I have an outlet in my trunk as well, I have never used it. But a powered cooler would be great to keep my food and drink cold on a long ride.

Don't know what the big surprise is as the features and specs for the vehicle clearly state:
"Power outlet in front passenger's footwell, front center console storage compartment, rear center console, and in trunk" |

I'm sorry Sharon, but I can't possibly memorize every specification of the vehicle. I was surprised to find it and it seems some other members were as well according to other posts in this thread.
It may have not been helpful to you but it was to others....

I figure if you're spending that much money on a car which has so many great features, you should at least take the time to know about them, and how to use them. Otherwise you may as well have purchased a Toyota Corolla! |

I plugged the auto charger for my mobile phone in , and stored the excess cable in the mesh pocket on the left side of the passenger footwell. No more will I have to leave the right side of the console open to charge my phone! Next question -- where do you leave your phone when charging?

I charge my iPhone from the USB port in the armrest. That way it not only charges but I can access the music on my iPhone and see the album artwork on the pro nav display.

I would need a switched 12V jack in my F11 for my cooling box. I do not like to keep any power consumer ON when I leave the car, especially not the cooler. I found the passenger side jack under the glovebox, but it provides constant power... similarly to the central console and trunk socket. Could someone give me a hint how to get switched 12V from the glovebox fuse panel please? Thanks a lot.
UPDATE: - Huhh.... In the meantime I have learnt something about the utility lines and sockets, which are switched OFF when the car is locked. I will crosscheck the existing cigarette lighters for this feature. Sorry for bothering you with stupid questions. Last edited by ae2; 09-07-2015 at 07:13 AM.. |
