TPMS

When selecting 'vehicle status' all I see is the four wheels with dashes where I thought I would find an actual pressure reading. The only options available are 'reset' or 'cancel' and on selecting the former I do get a pressure reading but only after I've covered a few hundred metres.
Does anyone know if there's a way to view pressures static and cold?
Thanks,
Jon D.

You should see something like this, Jon. (I coded the temp reading on mine)

You sure you have TPMS fitted? (metal valve stems)

Thanks Ian; no pic showing but that's probably because I'm on the train and the internet's a bit iffy.

Definitely have TPMS - aluminium 'bolt-in' stems.

Yes I assumed you would have if its the F12 you're talking about. Without teaching granny to suck eggs, you do know that the vehicle has to be in motion to take readings otherwise it shows dashes?

You can understand this being the case with the old rotational system using the ABS sensors and the full TPMS system using individual transducers in the valve assembly shouldn't have to be in motion but that's the time the car will measure.

You need to be driving/or have been to see it, just turning on the ignition will NOT show pressures just ----- at each wheel.

Thanks for clarifying and no problem about teaching etc., you're never too old to learn something new!
Yes, I know the old system was entirely reliant on rotational differenes as measured by the ABS sensors but, as there are now wireless pressure transducers inside each tyre, I'd hoped you'd be able to view the pressures cold and static.
I can only guess that the rolling requirement is a hangover from the previous ABS system.
It's far from a big issue, just my anal attitude to detail!

Just as Ian described, only problem with measuring pressure when driving or shortly after is that just a mile or so from cold will increase tyre pressures.

You absolutely should be able to view static and cold as plenty of other manufacturers do, but the BMW has to be in motion. As you say, perhaps a hangover from the old ABS system.

I'll live in the hope that BMW might introduce a software fix but I won't hold my breath!
At least, your confirmation will stop me hunting around in the drive.
Cheers,
Jon

You can put the temperature to be shown too.

Thanks, is that in the settings menu? I've found that it displays the pressures after a few handred metres so they should be pretty close to cold and static.
Do you know how accurate the system is?
Either way, I'll still be using my good old fashioned bourdon-tube dial gauge!

Very accurate IME. You have to code using E-Sys to get the temperature displayed.

Coding. It's a program you run on a laptop plugged in to the OBD port that gives you a whole host of settings usually only accessible by the dealer.

Here's an example including links with some of the options that become available.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ghlight=coding

I have coded EBT on mine (Enhanced Bluetooth) as well as taking off some of the nanny options, e.g. opening / closing the powered tailgate with just a press of the remote instead of having to hold it down.

Very interesting, if not a potential minefield but curiosity will probably win out.
Do you know if it's Apple Mac compatible?

I've heard users running successfully from a Mac if it's run within a Windows environment / emulation. Natively it is a Win32 exe.

Hi, I've just bought an lci 530d msport and I assumed that the tpms would be standard but mine dosnt have them so I have been looking into getting some sensors to retrofit, anyway while looking i found out that they only send data when the car is in motion due to the batteries in the sensors being motion sensitive in order to preserve the battery life which should last 5-7 years, or so I've read.

If your car did not come with TPM Valves fitting them will not work, they will need coding unless I am mistaken.
