It's built and released to carrier, Yaye!

It's "little boy in the run up to Christmas" time as my dealer has informed me that my car is built and has been released to carrier.

I've already grabbed the VIN and downloaded a copy of the manual to the Driver's Guide app.

Also checked an online VIN checker which informs it's build date was Friday 20th, and it has the proper spec (always helps).

Dealer says they should have it in two weeks, does this sound realistic?

I assume UK 5'ers are built in Germany?

yes built in Germany.
Sounds about right, might even be earlier than expected. I seem to recall mine arrived slightly earlier than expected.
Pics of course when it arrives!

difficult in all the excitement (you try and behave all cool and relaxed but fail miserably!) but before you drive away, ensure the paintworks all ok.

Good Point.

One thought for something to check was for dead pixels on the MFIP (unlikely these days but would be really annoying)

5 series are built in Dingolfing, which is in the bottom right hand corner of Germany.

Built on Friday 20th, it will probably be on a train by Monday 23 or Tuesday 24. It's about 500 miles to Cuxhaven, so you probably have to allow 24 hours for that, which means it arrives at the docks Tuesday 24 or Wednesday 25. Allowing time to get it on a boat, it should leave either Thursday or Friday, arriving in Immingham Friday 27 or Saturday 28.

From Immingham it will be ferried to the BMW Import Centre at Thorne, and would probably arrive there Monday March 2, and be allocated for delivery to the dealer that day. The delivery company will probably be contracted to deliver within 3 working days, so the car should be with your dealer by sometime on Thursday 5, and then need PDI etc.

It can be quicker, but not much!

As in my previous cars?

Don't have many as I/we tend to buy outright and then keep them for circa 5 + years.

1993-98 1st was a Peugeot 205 XS 85 bhp in 850KG. Terrific steering, lift off oversteer 17.5 MPH per 1000 in top...

98-05 Subaru Impreza Turbo. Kept it too long and hated it in the end. Bouncy, floaty, turbo laggy, overlight feel-less steering, ended up being almost worthless because of all the grey imports, wipers and lights were useless so you had all this grip you couldn't use as you couldn't blooming see!

04-onwards 2000 Lotus Elise Series 1. Not sure if/when I will ever be able to part with this. It's a wonderfully pure driving experience which still surprises me with how practical it is. It's ideal for my daily communte, does circa 40MPG, is pretty much water tight, and the controls are light and beautifully responsive. It's also pretty non threatening (smiley face grill) so people tend to let me out and are pleased to see it.

05 - 09 MKV Golf GTI. Loved it to bits, was so much more confidence inspiring to drive than the Impreza. Great optional Xenons after the Impreza I resolved to always go for the best lighting option available. Didn't want it to get too old/worthless so started looking for a replacement early 2009 as the MKVI had just come out. Had a "how much!?!?" at the configurator and then started looking around and just happened to see 3 identically speced 9 month 330d Tourings all on Yorkshire plates at a dealer 40 miles away soooo....

09-15 e91 330d. Love it to bits. In the week between test driving and collecting it no.1 child when from a possiblity to a thin blue line. Been a terrific car but 2 kids, their spraff and a Bugaboo that doesn't fit between the suspension turrets in the boot mean more space is required.

A car for us has to excel at the journey to my wife's parents 380 miles away near Henley. This consists of a blast down the terrific A701 to moffat (EVO have occassionaly used it and I believe they ran a Huayra on it). It's a twisting bucking rollcoaster or a road and the 330 excels at it. Then it's motorways for the rest sitting at a decent speed in comfort, which the 3 again is great at.

I tried an X3 and just could gel with it, then tried a 5 and it was like coming home. I can't wait to try Sport + on the Adaptive Drive on the A701 and then click back to Comfort + for the Motorway.

another thing, worth asking about is "connected drive". When I picked up my car, it took a couple of weeks before the sat nav (or electric map if you were watching the Peugeot sketch on top gear last week!) was displaying RTTI (Real time traffic information) in the meantime I had TMC.

Presumably just takes a while to get the paperwork sorted out. Not sure if that's a common issue or not, but perhaps worth asking to check that you have that working asap.
(This is I guess the mobile contract for the data card in the phone)

Good point.

OT really sad to see how far Peugeot have fallen. The 205 was a great car, handled wonderfully, nothing fell off, put up with 5 students going camping to Alton Towers. Every time I see a 3008 I'm a little sick in my mouth.

To activate you need to,contact bmw uk through the website. They asked me for a copy of the V5 document to confirm ownership.
