Exclamation CAUTION: Extremely FRAGILE Goodyear on 19"!!!!!

I just got my new tire replace, due to the pothole I ran through on the 4th day I got the car. After I replaced it I drove on the highway and hit another pothole which is not big at ALL (got lots of pothole here in Indiana). And it bubbled right after it is 40 minutes old.
I'm going to take the car back to the dealership tomorrow and see if there's anything that could be done other than charge me $400 again for this crap.
My tire is Goodyear Eagle LS2.
Does anyone have similar experience?

I'm very sorry to hear this happened to you and I'm afraid it will happen to me too shortly after I get my car - the roads around here are full of potholes too.

So many people are unhappy with BMWs decision to offer RFTs and I've only read one or two opinions that say safety overcomes fragility and high cost of RFTs. replacement. At $400 per pothole there is no budget that can take this abuse. Isn't it time we start a letter writing campaign urging BMW to stop the practice? If we could just stop buying their cars they would do it immediately

Here is an alternative but you will need to have AAA service or a spare, tools and a jack in the trunk:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....port%20Package

Great reviews for this tire and under $1,000 for a set.

The goodyears do suck but they come with a one year warranty see if you can get it replaced for free. Lindros on here just got his replaced.

Did BMW switch to RFT's as a cost saving to them by not providing a spare? All I've heard is bad things about them. I've never had my stocks on longs enough to really tell.

they said that road hazard such as potholes isn't covered in the warranty... but i'm going to try to claim this time, thanks for advising.

Thanks for the link, I'll be seriously thinking about changing all my tires if they are robbing another 400 bucks from me again!
I talked to BMW assistance and they did typed down my experience, I don't know what they will do after that... they said that I should call them back after examined by the dealership

One more thing, like the HPFP, that works fine in Germany but is a failure here because of our third world infrastructure.

That really isn't our problem. If BMW intends to sell cars here they should be equipped with market specific tires. They do this with many other options I dont see why not the tires. Oh by the way the RFT are optional in Europe. Only we get stuck with them here. BY the way in my opinion RFT are a failure everywhere for now. I cant see any reasonable advantage, they are more expensive, susceptible to damage, cannot be repaired, offer worse comfort and performance. All so that I dont have to change a tire?? No thanks I'll take the five minutes to change my spare and save me the aggravation. This is something that hasn't been fully invented yet.

Do they have a different body with a cavity under the trunk carpet to carry the spare? Do they have a compact spare wheel/tire combo that comes with the car? If this information is correct, I'm going to order the "European Spare Kit" for my car

We in the UK can only have RFT's on the F10, F11
I am ordering a new F11 Msport and would like to have the sexy looking 19" wheels but I am concerned about the ride. Can anyone advise me on the ride quality and road noise difference between the 18" and the 19". I am also concerned about potholes.

I am currently working/living in Korea and you don't see many 18" or 19" wheels here, perhaps thats due to the very rough roads here in Korea.

No wheel well cavity, no spare in Europe for BMW models, where non run-flat tires can be fitted. Mobilty kit is BMW's answer, or we carry a 'space saver spare' in the trunk space.

If the car is being driven in Korea then go with 18" rims, if in the UK, go with the 19" rims, I have drive the M-Sport with 19" rims and it was fine in the UK.

I'm interested in the "space saver spare" if you know of one that would fit my 550. At Tire Rack they found me a combination tire/wheel that will work but it is a full wheel, not a spare saver - 17x8 wheel and 225/55-17 tire.

I was told by a bmw SA that you cannot replace the RFTs with a traditional tire due to the 550i m package wheels that are built specifically for RFTs... can anyone confirm if this is true?

Considering tirerack offers non-runflats for the 2011 550i M sport, I would think your SA is wrong.

Give tirerack a call. I have always found them extremely knowledgable and courteous.

All BMW SA have to say RF is the only tire for your BMW. Because if he/she tells you non RF is fine and should something (for example, accident) ever happened to you & your car with the non rf on, then they are in some way liable down the road.

But in a real world, non RF is fine. IMO.

My SA changed his after about a month on his x6 with 20's.

I changed them on my 330 and the car was much better with non rf tires.

My plan is my stock 19's will be for snow tires and then get some nice 20's for summer. All tires will be non runflat.

Total BS.

I drive with non-RFT winter tires on my 19" M-sport rims. Works perfect.

I have run non-RFTs on my e60 550 for the last four years (winter and summer) after replacing four of teh junk OEM Bridgestone RFTs and three rims from pot holes. I have not had any problems withe the non-RFTs and the ride quality is much improved with little trade off in handling. I am picking up my 2011 550ix next week and have already made arrangements to trade in the stock Goodyear RFTs for non-RFTs. ( mI am sure they need an inventory to replace all the tires taht fail from potholes). The dealer confirmed what I have read in several posts: there are no temporary spares that they could find to fit the F10. I am buying a BMW mobility kit and hoping for the best until someone comes out with a spare that fits.

By the way, look at the Tire Rack survey for 245/40/19 inch tires for an F10, the bottom four tires with terrible ratings from users, by a long shot, are the RFTs. Wake up BMW!!!
