The pipes are back in and it sounds as to be expected. A little more throat but not much else in terms of noise. The microphone i was planning on using doesnt pick up the noise at all (it just sounds like a regular 550). I am planning on borrowing a go pro from a friend and mounting it to the rear bumper.

All in all, probably not worth the squeeze.

Ive already done the rest of the piping, it didn't make it any louder so I ordered a pair of Borla XR1 mufflers and tips. In the end it will be all resonators deleted, two mufflers out back, and factory downpipes for now unless I see some proof those do a lot for the N63 and I may do those.

If I end up going nuts with this car I'm going to redo it in a complete 3 inch system with the same mufflers (except in 3 inch), but until I'm near 600 rwhp (which I wont ever be I'm sure) I don't see the need for it yet, and likely before I buy turbos and such, I will probably spend the money on a M5 or at least N63tu car.

Combatbmw was selling his Shitgen exhaust for your model!

Coming from the domestic world, I have a hard time spending more than $1000 on a pre built exhaust, and the main cost behind all the BMW stuff is they know people will pay it. I will have approximately $500 and about 5 hours of labor invested in my exhaust and it will perform as well as or better than any prefabbed system out there.

On top of that, other than Akrapovic, I haven't heard a single BMW exhaust anywhere I like or offering what I'm looking for, so if I'm not happy with the XR1s (ive had them on most of my cars and they are wonderful, and there really isn't a better muffler out there) I may try magna flow or a different Borla variant.

Agreed, very pricey exhaust systems that don't perform any better than others in a lesser price range. What's more is the ones "designed for BMWs " don't have the deepness in tone that's highly desired. Most of them sound like metal cans rattling in your piping.

I'll be the first to put summit racing mufflers on mine and come in at even lower price point then borla or dynomax. I'll be the test piglet on that

I'd have to agree. I came from the japanese import world, and for about $500, you could get a QUALITY name-brand exhaust all day. There's no difference in the quality of metal used (SS, and titanium were closer to $1k).

But I understand there's a substantial difference in how many tuners own the car...higher production costs, more customized parts made, I guess. It is what it is, I don't complain, I just don't buy certain stuff lol.

At this point, I even wish I could get the F30 335i exhaust tone on my 535i.

It can be done as with the newer Mustangs and Camaros coming more commonly with V6s, ive built more systems for them to attempt at getting a deeper sound similar to the V8s... the big goal is large body mufflers, crossover such as a Xpipe, and lots of resonators to keep the rasp and resonance down. Most of the ones who listened to me sounded incredible, others who decided to shop online and listen to salesmen didnt. One of my favorite sounding systems was one I did on a Lexus IS350, sounded absolutely beautiful!

I'm very interested in gutting my oem mufflers after having the mufflers and resonator deleted. I want to see if the incorporation of the flap would help. I read this thread just wanted to get some insight to see if it actually can be done.

Thanks
