chrome to black trim

Hi all,

I'm due to pick up my new f10 520d M Sport next week.

Its pretty much matched everything I need, apart from chrome trim around windows. I've seen a diy video etc, but unsure where I can get the special matt/vinyl wrap from iwithn the UK. Found the US website shadowlinetrim, but wanted something UK based?

Would anyone be able to guide me too some tools?

Thanks!
Alex

MSport automatically have black trim, chrome is for the SE, are you sure it is MSport?

Yep, def. an M Sport. The previous owner wanted comfort (don't ask why they bought an M Sport from the factory). It has every comfort option available on the car.

What I mean is, I don't think that chrome trim is even an option on MSport, I guess they could have paid extra to have it, but it would have been alot as not a factory option. Have you seen the original invoice? Got any pics of it?

I am due to pick it up next week. Its under preparation at Vines BMW.

I tried to build the car on the bmw website, but its coming up with an error, so I cannot see how the option is available.

On a black car it does look a bit different, but on my white f10 (non m sport) I actually like the chrome trim. On white I think it looks much better with it.

It might look better if you have privacy glass to go with it?

Each to their own and all that, BUT, why the hell would anyone specify that? i know we all need to be different, but sometimes things, people and the choices they make do make me chuckle.

Are you this is a Msport and not a SE with Msport alloys?

That was my point, but I was being a little more subtle

It is difficult to know, the rear bumper is MSport, not sure on interior differences.

I do agree with dobbo, why oh why would ANYONE SPECIFY chrome on that car? Unless it was an SE originally that has been made to look like an MSport? Never seen one before like it

MSport has the option for matt aluminium....not chrome....I would ask some questions before finalising

Also, the chrome trim is apparently an individual option, "Burnished Aluminium exterior line"

No matter if its matt or aluminium, I think it needs to be wrapped.

The owner clearly liked the aggressive look of an m sport but wanted the comfort of a merc. Its got vdc, comfort seats, heated wheel and rear wheel steering. Its the only think I dislike, the window trim.

savgeax, that is a very good video on how to plastidip. I am a big fan of plastidip and your video is spot on to even mask behind the grill. Did you consider using the glossifier?

Thanks. Was struggling to find some last week. It's still an option at the moment. I'm doing the window trim tomorrow.

Got mine from ebay, around £15 a can... I did the wheels on my A4 before I sold it and it looked as good as a real paintjob but at a fraction of the cost.

Not to everyones taste...

Tempted to blackout the grill but not sure if it will cheapen the car as it's not an M-Sport model:

You could do it black and then gloss it? Would look fantastic.

Ive just done the brushed aluminium trim around the window.
