It's here - BMW 520D SE
So my new company car has arrived.
It's a MY2014 520D SE in Space Grey with no options (yet thats right. These things are apparently so rare, it had to be a factory order) So here are some pictures for you to look at whilst I try and get used to the iDrive (which is the exact opposite way round to what I had on the Audi) and also try and work out how to make Bluetooth streaming work (which is supposed to now come as standard on all 5s) Enjoy Last edited by m@rk; 06-02-2014 at 06:12 AM.. |

Nice and the location looks like God's own country to me.

Looks nice, somehow the car looks smaller in those pics must be the location.
So on the new model I have spotted, new grill, no front fogs?, redesigned dashboard display and tail lights. |

Fog lights add a lot to the look. @M@rk couldn't select any options because it's a company car. What's your excuse? |

Quite right. For "excuse" read "reason". I'm not driving an LCI because I decided to buy a used fully loaded.

I know they are only £145, but I just don't use them - hardly ever foggy and of my previous cars that have had them, I've hardly ever used them (I dont just turn on fog lights if it's "just a bit misty" like some people do.....). Also, my last car was a Merc E Class SE Executive and that didn't have them and I can't remember ever missing them. |

What's wrong with a car with no options? If it's what you can afford, it's what you can afford.
The 520d Tourer that I've been given as a courtesy car has no options, bar the M-Sport package, it's still a perfectly good car. |

My short list actually came down to two cars: the Audi A6 Ultra Avant and the BMW 520d SE Touring.
Even though the Audi was absolutely fantastic (if you are in the market for a new car you really must try an A6 with the Ultra engine, they've totally transformed it compared to the old 177Ps 2.0 TDI, and the auto now uses the S Tronic box rather than the old CVT, or Multitronic). The BMW had a slightly better standard spec which included front heated seats, Xenons and LED DRLs and a USB music interface. What really swung it for me was the fact that the Sline includes Xenons, LED rear lights and DRLs, but if you want to add this to the SE you are forced to go for Xenon adaptive lights. Adaptive lights are around £2.5k where the uplift for an Sline is around £3k. This is very much intentional by Audi and I felt it was a bit manipulative. Oh, and the BMW lease was cheaper allowing for a bit of extra shopping on the extras list.... |
